You would think so, right? The fact that a single individual could make such a wildly irrational and completely indefensible decision putting the entire studio in jeopardy by abandoning their main revenue source while alienating their most important demographic and not face swift and immediate consequences from their parent company whose entire existence focuses on making as much money as possible just seems hard to believe. Like, you're right guy. There is actually no way anyone could make this decision without consequence if PoE1 were still their main source of revenue, so the fact that there were in fact no consequences tells us that PoE1 is without a doubt no longer their main source of revenue.

So no, prosperity of GGG is not in danger at all. A new season of PoE1 would come in 1 month, old PoE1 players would enjoy it, maybe some players of PoE2 would try it, and GGG would be in the best position to maintain 2 games, with 2 communities and 2 income sources.

How many of the 600k ppl returned to 0.2.0? How many will return for 0.3.0? Do these ppl stay around for years like the old PoE1 community did?
Depending what happens, GGG could be in huge "danger". Piss off the PoE1 community - huge finacial loss. Get new players who don't stick around for a long time? Same.
It's not as simple as you make it seem.

PoE2 was presented initially as a PoE1 expansion where they wanted to modernise the game, improve systems, update the engine and so on. Then 4 years later, they said "Jokes on you. It's a separate game now.". Was that time enough to cry?

When ppl were able to test PoE2's gameplay and gave their feedback that "Sorry, but that's not it" and GGG doubled down and said "Oopsie daisy, this is the new vision". Was that the time to cry?

When they released PoE2, that looked like a usable base to improve from, but vastly different from what PoE should look like if it wants to be PoE; then ppl gave their feedback, but GGG triple downed and made it even worse. That's not the time to cry?

When we got interviews where they showed us that "the vision" is more important than the long-term community. Is it then the time to cry?

Tell me. How long do we have to wait until we are allowed to cry about PoE2 not being PoE anymore?
