GGG can't do that. Diablo IV did it with the "Paths" of each class... at around level 15 each different class get a specific quest to unlock their signature abilities.
So, is a no no in PoE 2 make anything specific for each class or each ascendency.
Yeah, Diablo IV was pretty lazy on that end though (the entire game could be somehow described as a bunch of lazy decisions, but I digress). Each class had a specific quest to unlock their "class specific" mechanic at level 15, but it's the same regardless of how you build the character.
GGG could do it, but they probably won't because reasons.
"lazy decisions" that made a fun game.
You know, one without exp penalties, one where you can skip the campaign to actually PLAY seasonal content or just not fall asleep because you're doing the same worn-out content for the 50th time on a new character, one where you achieve everything you want to if you simply put the time in and are good enough rather than being a card-carrying masochist to push through it. One where there is an armory, free respecs, mounts, tons of end-game content instead of just "mapping", etc. etc. etc. etc.
The sad thing is: Blizzard is a horrible development company.
So... where does that leave GGG right now?
"reasons" is right.
Its funny because reasons you outlined as bad and unfun in PoE2 are the reasons why I and many people love this game, and enjoy it so much more than the bland D4 experience. XP penalties, campaign levelling, respec costs, weight of loot and decisions is what makes this a game we coming back to every season etc... Given that you have such strong dislike for so many core systems of PoE perhaps D4 is more of a game for you. Thats not been elitist its just common sense, different things for different people.
I personally have really enjoyed the ascendancy revamp in PoE2, and once more polish and variety is introduced, very happy for the system to be in place long term. Same with the current quality of the campaign, if you think grinding helltides to 60/infinity is more fun than we are just never going to agree here.
Keep doing what you are doing GGG, im sure by release we ll have a close if not better contender to the first game.

The ascendancies in POE 1 were just as broken...
Totally lazy development and one-size-fits-all "trials" that really tested nothing about your ascendancy... where people had to change their builds to get through it instead of fine-tuning what they had in order to satisfy the trial since it was tailored for their specific ascendancy's strengths.
I...disagree. I never changed my build to get through Ascension in PoE1 and I've been playing it since 2017 with many different self-made builds in SSF. Sometimes I'd wait till I gained a few levels before trying, but never had to tweak anything.
In PoE2, I waited until I was 10 LEVELS above the chaos dungeon invite and still couldn't make it past stage 3, and then to make matter worse, you keep getting new invites at your current level so you can't really get even more powerful to try again without waiting 20 levels. Now that's broken!

You lost me at "ascendancy revamp".
In fact, it kind of painted you to be a troll and I couldn't take you seriously at all.

If you never changed your build then you innately played builds that were
1. Already super tanky
2. Already had a ton of regen/ES to survive traps
3. Already had a ton of DPS
So, essentially you weren't MAKING or WORKING on a build like most people would as they choose their ascendancy or progress in it.
You already were DONE with a build which indicates you likely were doing a meta every season. Sound about right?
And in POE 2 it's even worse. Objectively.

Ascendancy should be a class quest not a one size fits all mini game. But adding new, let alone innovative, content is clearly not something that the developers thought was a good fit for their vision.

Clearly you've played POE 1, lol.
Yeah, we can only hope they listen this time. But, it's kind of the old paradox of trying to get someone to see the forest through the trees.

I was definitely not doing Meta every season, lol. I tried to make my builds good, yes. Sometimes they ended up being very good, but not always. I had a few builds that had little to no survivability in the end game, but labyrinth wasn't a problem.
In terms of surviving the traps, I found some boots of speed (or a quicksilver flask) and using blink spells like flame dash and frostblink were typically enough to avoid them. There were times I got through to Izaro and he kicked my butt, so I'd come back in a few levels and make him regret his life choices.
My assessment is that Ascension (at least the first 3) in PoE 1 were pretty survivable in line with the campaign. PoE 2 ascension is only survivable for sweatlords and people who follow meta builds.

The current "one-size-fits-all" thing with ascendancy trials is pretty lazy development...
I dealt with it on POE 1 because the game was already in full swing when I started and the playerbase was already insanely toxic and clinging like drowning people to driftwood to bad mechanics and horrible development choices.
But, this is the "new" version of POE.
Let's actually make ascendancies that test THE ASCENDANCY ITSELF.
Because, there's no way a witch becoming a Necromancer or improving their necromancer ascendancy should have to OR BE ABLE TO do the same content a face-tanking Titan does.
Nor should a Warbringer be able to do the same ascendancy that a Deadeye can.
It should be very specific to the class/ascendancy, not just "traps" and RNG debuffs. It's just very pointless the way it is now and was in POE 1.
It's actually a very good idea and I could see this being in a future league, along with ascendancy improvements.

Nope, waste of development time, imagine making specific trials for each ascendancy for you to run them once and be done with it, i couldnt imagine a worst way to waste dev time, the way they are now they serve as a way to ascent and as farming content late game, it´s good this way, they need some fixes and balance but in general is a good idea, and with a 3rd way to ascent comming later even better so everyone does it the way they like the most.
