Make ACTUAL ascendancy trials
The current "one-size-fits-all" thing with ascendancy trials is pretty lazy development...
I dealt with it on POE 1 because the game was already in full swing when I started and the playerbase was already insanely toxic and clinging like drowning people to driftwood to bad mechanics and horrible development choices. But, this is the "new" version of POE. Let's actually make ascendancies that test THE ASCENDANCY ITSELF. Because, there's no way a witch becoming a Necromancer or improving their necromancer ascendancy should have to OR BE ABLE TO do the same content a face-tanking Titan does. Nor should a Warbringer be able to do the same ascendancy that a Deadeye can. It should be very specific to the class/ascendancy, not just "traps" and RNG debuffs. It's just very pointless the way it is now and was in POE 1. Visit my Steam profile here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/TheBaconOverlord/ Last bumped on Jan 8, 2025, 6:12:38 PM

There is supposed to be a 3rd way to get points in the final version of the game - no idea what it'll be yet, but hopefully it's less tedious than the current options.

" No, I meant the current ways need to go. As in.. bye bye. Gone. They can make them optional content I guess, but they are ridiculous and pointless when you consider that you're being tested to see if you're ready to progress your specific ascendancy. " I shudder to think what horrible 3rd hated league mechanic gets chosen for this... |

" I'm sure it will be pointlessly punishing and have zero actual purpose beyond awarding you ascendancy points for a "trial" that has nothing whatsoever to do with your ascendancy. Kind of like the current hot-garbage. Visit my Steam profile here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/TheBaconOverlord/ Last edited by Bacon_Overlord#1834 on Jan 7, 2025, 1:55:12 PM

Oh God I bet it will be kalandra.....

" hahahahaha... you beat me to it! If the third Ascendency Trial is a little bit funnier, engaging or time worthy than Sekhemas and Chaos, those two will be left to rot. Besides the Ascendency points, the rewards are meaningless (maybe for Soulcores, but are way better runes to use), the trials are tedious AF. |

There's some huge potential here, and it's not exploited at all. It would indeed require significant development time, but having at least a different part of trial per Ascendancy would be the bare minimum of what I would have expected.
I mean, from a lore point of view, what happened between, let's say, an Acolyte of Chayula and an Invoker for the former to be considered "Someone who strayed from the path" or one "Who follows a dark path"? As it is right now in the game : Nothing. We simply clicked on a choice at the end of the first Trial and nothing different happened after that between choice 1 and choice 2 (or choice 3, eventually)... but the Acolyte of Chayula somehow met Chayula or was touched by Chayula during a dream or meditation (and not the crytic benevolant dreamer?). Honestly, I would have prefered an Ascendancy quest tied to your initial Ascendancy choice. You want to be an Infernalist? After you unlock the "possibility" of Ascending, go meet with an Witch who's specialized in demonology, learn the way, go beat a specific dungeon for said Witch. It certainly wouldn't cater to every build (i.e. if you decide to go with a Ranged Warrior, maybe the Titan Ascendancy trial could be a tad less optimal for your build, but should be doable regardless), but it would feel better than what we currently have. Honestly, I don't mind the later Trials for Ascendancy points 3 to 8, but the first two should come from an Ascendancy specific quest, if only for flavour. " GGG can't do that. Diablo IV did it with the "Paths" of each class... at around level 15 each different class get a specific quest to unlock their signature abilities. So, is a no no in PoE 2 make anything specific for each class or each ascendency. |
