Waystones killed my progress

You seem to be a bit confused. There is not one specific way, there are choices that YOU the player make.

If you want to juice it to the max for item drops, then you may have waystone sustainment problems. As this game is designed first for trade, the solution is that you buy them.

If you want to oversustain on waystones, there are ways to do that. You can then sell your extras to those that are not sustaining. Your normal loot drops will likely not be as good, but you're making profit off the extra waystones.

You can also take a balanced approach, never being as good as either but being self-sufficient. I normally go for this personally.

It's up to you to LEARN and then see what style you want to go for, what you can't get is everything at once.

There's also multiple ways to sustain, the map boss method is just the easiest and most available to earlier tiers. Those that can handle more juiced maps don't need to rely on map bosses as much.

Except when you see GGG speaking they always say something completely different from your take.. My whole point is. if some forms are clearly not supposed to be viable.. why to keep them in game? That is just a trap... and that can and will frustrate some people. Historically GGG games are deemed obscure.. and peopel think that is about the PT.. no.. it is about THESE approaches...

What?
I think he wants the game to remove all but one class, skill/support gem/gear mods

so there is ONLY 1 way to play the game, so you don't accidently make a build which might be better at bossing but worse at clearing.

thats my takeaway from what he said

Same here. I am Level 87, died twice, and lost two Tier 15 waystones, which has completely halted my progress. I have already requested a refund and might revisit the game after Early Access, but this is absurd.

The XP loss alone erased 1 to 2 hours of grinding lower-tier waystones, as I did not have higher ones left. Worst of all, I was doing great, running a tanky and evasive monk with 4k ES and Meditate. Then, out of nowhere, I died instantly, with no clue what killed me or how to improve.

Random, unexpected deaths like this make the game feel deceptive and punishing. I had solid progress before, completed the trials, got the last ascendancy, and endured setbacks well. But things like this ruin the experience entirely.

The developers need to rethink these mechanics from the ground up.

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for the translation.
I have too much way stones.
I no longer pick up Tier 8 and Below. I sometimes pick up 9 so i can reforge a few random ones to Tier 10.

As I am typing this , I just took around 30 Tier 10 and reforge it to Tier 11s.

I am not sure why your waystones drop are so low. RNG maybe ?

It took me about a week of gameplay (I can only play after work, did play a lot on my holiday break) to get to a point where I was able to sustain maps, but sustain is a little generous. At lvl 92, a T15 Waystone dropping in a T15 is happening consistently. I usually get two, sometimes zero. But I am finally able to run waystones.

This was a MAJOR issue for myself and my partner in crime at the level you mentioned. And Doryani does NOT sell maps! At least ol Zana kept track of our progress, heck, she believed in us more than we did!

I recall completing my first T2-T3 maps in PoE 1 and Zana offering to sell me Shaped/Elder T14s and stuff, saying whoa whoa whoa! But Doryani is a useless item ID bot. After we've completed each one of his quests, he should be selling us Waystones based on the progress we've achieved with that NPC.

Map sustain was becoming so unbearable from the late 70s to level 90. We bought almost every map we ran, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to run any of the appropriate tiers for our levels.

Someone needs to fix Doryani first off, for when we get stuck in this awkward map slump phase, if nothing else. Or regulate him to Item ID, as he seems to have no point in our Atlas/Waystone endeavors aside from being the dude that tosses us a few skill points early. Honestly, this awesome throwback name from PoE 1 does so little and is so meh in his current iteration that it makes me bummed out. PoE NPCs and Bosses used to have so much thought put into their stories, even if it came out endearingly goofy sometimes.

Doryani doesn't seem like "The Atlas Guy" or my "Waystone Hookup", as he seemed designed to be that guy. After playing it's clear that as an NPC, his "job/role" seems coded to him arbitrarily, at that. There are so many random NPCs in my hideout that could do the same thing, no part of the story told me Doryani was the "GOD OF WAYSTONES" or "ATLAS EXPLORER Extraordinaire" like Zana always did. With Zana, you guys made a character with a whole backstory, intrigue, and a purpose in her "NPC Life" with Zana and she had similar goals to our Exiles and helped us push! We were given "shared goals" for the endgame with Zana and a fleshed out story. But this reply was not about the total lack of character development in PoE 2, rather that our "Atlas Wizard" style NPC is just NOT THAT.

He's useless as a rock. Doryani, my man, please just ID items and stick with that because you don't do anything else... sheesh. Oh, unlimited T1 Waystones, what an OP addition to the game lmao. Arbitrarily giving him our first Atlas quests doth not make him the equal of a well designed, fully fleshed out (story wise) and well functioning NPC like Zana.

Doryani is just not fleshed out at all and a disappointing character whose shop never updates. The latter should be addressed.

Please fix Doryani and drop rates for mid-tier Waystones, as it's been a major hurdle and pain point for so many. I'm glad to feel "free" from it, but it took over a week of mapping (especially Tier 10-13) to get to the point where they drop with a sustainable frequency. The drop rates need to be way higher we've been begging for weeks and weeks now.

Yes, I also have "too many waystones" but they are all low tier. I destroy them all now, they take up so much space and I only need to save a few for my alt characters (tho I am saving hoards of T10-13 for my alts, omg hordes). Using the reforge bench on waystones is something I learned about too late, however, it does not feel the same and it's a major inconvenience compared to upgrading them via Doryani as we expected we'd be able to do. If I had my Stash's Map Tab that I paid for, I wouldn't find it as bothersome, I bet.

Map sustain gets easier as you go up, unless you are doing something very wrong.

Doryani does what he needs to do, and he does refresh sometimes (but only goes up to T5 waystones) but it's not on levels... honestly not 100% sure what triggers his reset.

When we say too many waystones, and quad tabs of them, we're talking about T15. Though, I have no problem running well rolled T13+ as I'm not farming bases so it doesn't make a big difference... but that means I have even more waystones than I'll ever need.

I, and others, have offered a few times in these threads to try and help figure out where you might be having issues with sustain. Just post up some screenshots of your atlas, waystones you normally run, and a node you plan to run it on. There's a few different things that can affect sustain (and more than one way to sustain) so I'm sure we can find something that will help you.

Huge +1 on the give me a waystone tab!

It's most likely because you need to succeed to be able to succeed. If you aren't massively juicing your maps, ramping up the number of enemies, and running enough magic find to keep you in the currency to crank up the waystones, you're hosed, because you won't get enough waystones nor currency to up the waystones so you can get enough waystones and currency.

But if you do have the meta character that slaughters hordes of mobs with ease, then you can crank up the difficulty, and life is great.

Short of it, the system is dumb.

And bugged, because some of us don't get tablets for whatever reason, so are denied that option for juicing up maps as well.

And so I'm now screwed, because of lack of drops, bad drops (why do level 9 maps drop level 1 waystones?), unbalanced enemies (super speed enemies, that are then hasted, that are on a map that has +25% attack speed and movement), horrible maps (Augury needs to die in a chemical fire), and so on.

ima +1 this. A lot of people don't want to trade for them and with the current hacking situation, I don't blame them.

All gears are self found. I only traded for two items which is on my ranger and I am not even playing my ranger and those items cost less than 15 exalts on my Ranger.

My Item Rarity on Kill, a good 44%, you probably have more item rarity than I do and maybe even better gear .
