Hard crashing PC locks up
The most recent patch (f) made the game freezes much more on an issue for my system.
Ryzen 7700 / RTX 3080 / 24H2 Previously, I would get random lockups when zoning in a map every few hours, now I can't even get logged into the game without the issue popping up 90% of the time. I make sure to disable a few cores before trying to do anything with the game to ensure I don't have to hard reset my PC due to the game using 100% of every CPU core when this happens. Maybe some thread mutexes needed to handle a race condition with MS APIs (that might have changed recently)? Tempted to fire up a debugger/profiler on my end when I have some spare cycles. |

" [Removed by Support] You are correct, every other game I play (even the high graphics intensity games) run perfectly fine on my machine. On the very rare occasions they do crash, it just closes the game. Minor inconvenience. On this particular game, PoE2, not only does it freeze the game, but it freezes my entire PC. No ability to alt-tab, alt-f4, no ability to close the process in task manager. Nothing but hard turning off my PC and turning it back on allows me to use my computer. This bug is bad, and I haven't played PoE2 for the last 3 weeks because of it. It's a decent game from what I've played so far (needs a lot of improvements though imo), but i'm not willing to risk completely bricking my PC just to play an EA game. The fact that this bug exists tells me that they rushed early access out. I can only imagine they did so because they wanted to ride the holiday hype and make a ton of money because other game companies rolled out updates during the holidays. There are people experiencing this bug who have been loyal supporters of GGG during PoE1 and have spent hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars on them. I feel really bad for those guys. In any case, GGG was not responsible with releasing PoE2 into EA. They did it for money plain and simple. Last edited by JC_GGG#0000 on Jan 10, 2025, 10:43:34 AM

It's really hard to view it any other way. A bug like this just simply should not exist.

I'm using ryzen 7600x I didn't have any major issiues until about a week ago but for about a week it became unplayable I can't even finish a single map without game crashing and locking my pc. I can't imagine how people who have been experiencing this from the start must be feeling.
This have to have a priority on their fix list. | |
Motherboard: Asrock x870 Pro RS
CPU : AMD 9800x3D (OC and general settings don't matter but I tested with OC specs, some OC specs and factory default, crawl/freeze up persists) RAM : G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 - 64GB - CL30 - Dual Channel (2 pcs) - CAS Latency: 30-36-36-96 GPU : Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super - latest drivers The crawl/freeze up sometimes happens while playing but mostly in loading screens when changing areas. Once it happens it basically locks you out of playing the game entirely since reopening the game after a forced reboot will most likely trigger the crawl/freeze up on the first in game loading screen again. At this point in time I tried many solutions, none of which worked, period. I will not test further since this is a brand new computer which I built after having an very old one for ages and I am not going to risk anymore hardware integrity for GGG to properly start troubleshooting this game breaking bug. Matter of fact they have just been ignoring this issue while people fry their systems. Offtopic: If anyone is interested about the X870 Asrock issue with 9800x3D and 64GB ram, I can confirm that with a flashed BIOS before Win11 installation I have not had any problems whatsoever. The CPU and RAM, OC's and EXPO enabled, run flawlessly, 1382 cinebench 2024. I am extremely content with how the rig functions and I am immensely disappointed that the first game I tried on the new rig is unplayable with state of the art hardware :feelsweirdman: Last edited by Hundigesundi#2354 on Jan 10, 2025, 11:16:55 AM

Looks like more and more people crashing after latest "f" hot fix.
Strangest thing in all this situation is GGG's silence. I respect company very much think GGG is not one of the best arpg devs- I think they are THE BEST. Them posting 1x reply a month ago and not a single update after (while the problem just getting worse and worse with every paych) is crazy to me. I would take any news over silence |

" Agreed; it's a real shame they've been silent on this issue for years ever since POE1 back when it first started happening. Then, they finally addressed it and claimed to fix it and then promptly ignored every thread pointing out the fact that they didn't. Really hoped that this bug wasn't gonna be ported to POE2, but we all expected as much, and now, here we are with GGG doing the same thing as last time. " I am on Windows 10. Always has been. Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam. I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1.
What to do: 1)Write a short review about the hard crashes in notepad. 2)Copy and paste it to steam reviews, put up a negative review. 3)Copy and paste it to steam discussions, put it up there. |

" What architecture are you talking about, game engines? Sure no, there are all different. " If the game is triggering the chain of events, your OS / ring 0 stuff responsible for not stopping / breaking that chain of events when it was supposed to by its core design. Your game doesn't have direct access to your hardware at all and completely isolated. Other games also affected by this ring 0 vulnerability / design flaw, I already dropped the links to prove my words. Moreover it affects UE5. This is the reason why I pointed on the books of Mark Russinovich so people could learn at least basics of their systems. But some of them prefer to be mad and angry instead of reading. For example this one: Windows Internals: Covering Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7, 6th Edition blacksheepcosmo#0142 Can you answer on my question please?
