Hard crashing PC locks up

Just reposting a working fix Kapps made from a few pages back - https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher

Is this safe? Windows Defender says it detects a virus in the file.

Source code looked clean from what I could glean. It did trigger for me too but it was a machine learning ping for a Trojan which makes a bit of sense since the program is instructed to read logs, which could look like a keylogger or such to a machine learning anti-virus?

Regardless, it worked great for me yesterday on the 1.0 version, still one crash but pc didn't lock up for the first time ever, otherwise I could play for hours. And the newer version I haven't tested yet claims to be able to fix the game locking up too.

After Windows Defender deleted 1.0, MS Edge won't even let me download 1.2 because it detects a virus...

Don't love that. But I did throw the URL into https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/url and it seemed content enough that it was safe.

If you are afraid of running a random executable (as you should) you could check the code and compile the code yourself, that's what I did.

Guys I went to appdata folder and searched for "path of exile" and deleted every single item and folder that has that name (click skip if prompted with an error for some items). After doing so i havent had any crashes in about 3 hours.

Can you guys try doing the same and see if it changes anything?

This is a known workaround, it will most likely crash again sooner or later.

UPDATE: full system crashes still happening with POE-Uncrasher in Admin mode.

:(

In the POE2 log, every crash happens with a D3DX12 Create Texture Error or Collision Callback Error.

I am on Windows 23H2. All latest drivers and BIOS and updates installed.

:(

I was trying it myself, but I only did it for two maps, so I didn-t reach a crash situation yet.

If you are saying it doesn't work I might go back to the ol' trusty disable multithread

The workaround I saw is that people delete the poe folder in APPDATA/ROAMING, what I did is I searched for "path of exile" in appdata and deleted every single thing related to it not just in ROAMING

It says that POEuncrasher is for AMD X3D chips. So it doesn't work with Intel chips? Can anyone confirm?

IM NOW 85% SURE ITS A PROBLEM WITH THE NBIDIA DRIVER DETECTING POE 2 AS PATH OF EXILE.

IF NVIDIA ISNT DETECTING "PATH OF EXILE 2" YOURE GOING TO HAVE A FATAL SHADER COMPILER ERROR. TESTED WITH 2 PCS FIXED NOW.

I put some thought into this post and what I then did has totally solved the crash freeze issue that has plagued me since buying POE2... no other solution posted thus far has helped. 5 hours of play in 3 sessions + at least 20 portals across all parts of the game to test.

1. Uninstall POE2 and if you have it POE1 as well.
2. Important... delete both POE1 and 2 folders from your Documents/ My Games folder.
3. Do a search on your drive(s) for anything "Path of Exile", highlight all results and delete the files and folders then do the same search for "Grinding Gears" just in case there's any remnants that may be there. Then, empty your recycle bin!
4. Clean your shader cache... empty that sucker.
5. Rerun a scan in Nvidia App and make certain Path of exile is gone from your installed games.
6. Restart windows.
7. Do a fresh install of POE2 only (don't install POE1)
8. Start the game and redo your settings to taste. I left it on DX12 to really test it without Vulkan. Then exit the game and then restart it.
9. Ready to play... load in and hold your breath.

Once I was loading in I noticed the gears turning much smoother. When I started playing, I ran about while shaders compiled. The game was much smoother and ran well. I ported around maps and was overjoyed when they all loaded without freezing. Hard to explain but everything was running much better.

The big question... Is there a conflict between the 2 POE versions causing issues?

PS. Just did another 2 hour session and no crashes! CPU and GPU are also cooler.

This comment need more attention. Just solved my problem mate.
As a software engineer, I understand that debugging multithreading issues can be extremely challenging. These problems are often difficult to reproduce because they require specific combinations of worker threads to be in particular states. Additionally, even adding logging code can sometimes make the issue entirely non-reproducible.

I just want to wish the GGG devs the best of luck in fixing this issue as soon as possible!
There is no such thing as "PoE Uncrasher" lmao. Stay away from placebo solutions, "fixes" and workarounds. Just be patient and wait for an official fix.
Daily reminder that this is not a hardware or OS issue.

As always we have some trolls and tourists here stating this due to x, where x=/=PoE2.

To anyone who is confused about the Windows 11 24H2 crashes:

That particular error Ubisoft and other games faced was that Windows' "New Feature" was blocking the program's access to system resources, therefore crashing the program but never crashing the PC itself.

The problem PoE2 has is that program is hogging all available system resources due improper usage of system APIs, therefore crashing the program AND the PC itself. (Technically it crashes the OS because OS can no longer get the resources it has to in order to function properly)

People are crashing on Win 10, Win 11, Linux. If PoE2 runs on an OS, there is someone here crashing on that OS.

This is not a hardware issue:
We have reports of crashes from every single hardware component that can run this game.

Our most recent tourist here to troll stated this is a Raptor Lake(13th/14th gen Intel CPU) issue. Apparently Intel decided to secretly enter my home to upgrade my CPU and in an aggressive marketing move also changed the CPUs of people with AMD CPUs... Just report these trolls. Unfortunately I think they are condoned by GGG staff.
I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1.
What to do:
1)Write a short review about the hard crashes in notepad.
2)Copy and paste it to steam reviews, put up a negative review.
3)Copy and paste it to steam discussions, put it up there.
