Hard crashing PC locks up

Unless you bring solid evidence to the table related to this specific issue, just saying "it has to be bad" has no concrete foundation and only brings confusion.
Thank you.

I know it feels scary to have your whole computer lock up but please do not draw conclusions based on your emotional response. Thank you.

If you experienced a bricked component and/or corrupted files following the freeze lockup, after you made sure that it's really related to the freeze (referring again to a case that happened here), please create a separate thread to emphasize your issue.

Both times I had a freeze and hard shut down resulted in my bluetooh disappearing completely until I restored to a previous windows update. I'm not even going to try any of the work arounds because it's not worth the risk of loosing that feature completely.

I lost six hours of work because of this. I played while the information was uploaded to the servers. I had to start all over again.
And in any case, a complete system shutdown due to a game is NOT NORMAL, stop justifying it.

it has something to do with shader cash, or at least partially. Today my game refused to boot in town multiple times in a row. I ave cleared dx12 and minimaps in user C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2

and wuala - it worked

Thank you for passing this along. So far I've had some good results with this, but I'll have to play for hours to determine whether that isn't coincidental. In the meantime here's a .bat file to automate what you describe.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
This deletes all files within these three folders.
It also launches Path of Exile 2 by App ID.
It may be worth clearing cache in between loading zones, but I don't know yet how the game might respond to that.

del /S /Q "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2\ShaderCacheD3D12\*"
del /S /Q "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2\ShaderCacheVulkan\*"
del /S /Q "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2\Minimap\*"

start steam://rungameid/2694490

If anyone happens to be interested in testing this, add those three del commands to a batch file (like clearcache.bat) and use AutoHotkey or something to run it.

With that done, just tap the hotkey to run the batch file before loading a new zone. I am not sure yet whether this works or not long term but anything is worth a try at this point!

I'm noticing this seems to happen when I have YouTube on my other screen. Going to try again without any video in the background and see if it helps. Not sure if this has been brought up in this thread, quickly tried searching

So i did just that. Thread is here:

GPU died yesterday while playing
IGN : MYNAMEISNILE / EKNILE / psNILE
I am trying the BES CPU limiter and so far seems fine will post if it happens again, also tabbing in and out of game seems better with no noticeable performance hit. The other poster prior who said their bluetooth all reset after the hard crash so did mine I had to reset my computer an additional time to get my wifi drivers working again also all of my game settings got reset back to default. So its a pretty nasty crash.

You can faff about with CPU cores to stop the hard freezing as mentioned allowing you to close the game and start it back up without rebooting your PC.

If you can be bothered though simply disabling engine multihtreading in the graphiccs options before travelling will stop the crashing. Probably already posted in here somewhere but just a friendly reminder that you don't need to go wild trying to workaround the issue until it's fixed.

Game crashes often while loading i.e. different area. PC unresponsive. hard reset. Ryzen 7 / RTX 4070
Don’t go and buy new ram 🤣.
Make sure your ram is approved by your motherboard manufacturer
Run Windows Memory Diagnostic
Run MemTest86

If you passed win mem diagnostic and memtest86 your ram is good. The tests run your mem much harder than any game. You don’t need special ram to play poe2 🤣😂
