Are we stuck on Steam for PoE 2?
" Indeed, getting the actual live player count from steam will be great for arguing on the forums. Now, we will be able to argue about the league retention numbers without having a side argument about the ratios of steam and non-steam players. | |
I've always played on Steam. I think maybe years and years ago, like 2017ish I saw some slow updating, but that has not really been a thing for years.
I'm not opposed at all to a stand alone client, but I also don't have an issues with Steam. |

" I can live with that. But every other game i own is mine. If PoE2 will be limited to Steam i wont play it. |

There's no particular reason for them not to use the standalone client and peered distribution that they already have in place for PoE1, the overhead is incredibly low and there's essentially zero downside for them.
Steam is remarkable and has massively changed PC gaming for the better, but more options is better if the downside is minimal. Steam-only releases exist by and large because there is no point developing any form of alternative, but GGG has already done that development, so the equation isn't the same. |

valve used to take 30% of player's support for games for themselves, would be crazy for ggg to solely rely on that platform to finance their game on pc.
joystick platforms are certainly not better, i don't think that micro$oft takes less than value from users support. that's the reason i don't understand why they cripple their pc game to support those plattforms. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill! OMG GUYS, WE WON.
We will have a freaking standalone client for POE2, how cool is that? Big win GGG. |

Very good decision.

So many people don't understand that Steam client will have national restriction, which is dumb for a worldwide game.
Glad that we have a standalone client ! |

I for one have always preferred the Steam POE1 client.
I tried to use the standalone POE client, but their IP based security restrictions meant I had to email-verify everytime I logged in from a different IP address, and their customer support said there was absolutely no way to turn off this IP restriction. I was actually ready to give up POE entirely, because I was tired of this (at the time I traveled a lot), but then I realized the Steam version of POE didn't have this problem at all, and relied on Steam 2nd factor and security instead of the GGG IP based security..... ...so I'll never use their standalone client, and welcome the Steam version. |
