Are we stuck on Steam for PoE 2?

Or is there going to be the far superior option to keep playing on their standalone launcher?? I'm feeling nervous about it, I honestly been hating steam, if PoE adds into the exclusivity shitstorm it will be really sad for me.

i prefer standalone as well. never tried poe on steam.
My guess is that PoE2 will not have a standalone client. It won't just be Steam; the game will be cross-platform, so it will be available on all the platforms that PoE is currently available on, including PlayStation, XBox, and (shudder) Epic's Game Store.

I could be wrong, but I feel like PoE1's standalone client is more of a legacy thing than anything else. PoE1 was in development for years before Steam was even a thing, and standalone was how it was first released, so they've kept it ever since, which makes sense.

PoE2 is being developed in a totally different industry environment where Steam is the dominant platform for PC games, and the best platform for Linux gaming, and I don't know that a standalone client really makes sense anymore. It's not like the standalone client is a complete game that can be played offline, or anything.

As I said... I could be wrong. Maybe the Early Access will be Steam/EGS/PS/XBox only, with a standalone client coming at full release. But I don't know why any developer these days would do such a thing.
Remember, remember the 6th of December...
played every league (alot) since 3.7patch with steam client and literally never had any issues with steam poe. Maybe you have other issues than actual steam?

Steam released in 2003. Chris and friends actively began development in late 2006. That's not how it went. (These are public infos from interviews)
Steam is the inferior option in every way.

Dump it.
Yeah it's looking pretty grim indeed for whoever hopes for a standalone client. Like one person said above, it's being released in a complete different world than it was back in 2013. And it's for the worse.

For the people who are even asking why is steam an issue, I'm afraid I'm not gonna be able to change their minds, so I'd beter not even start it. They're a lost cause.

At this point I still have some hopes but I have to agree that it looks like we are stuck to third party garbage.
I will only play PoE2 on a standalone client with this, my main account. Not Steam/Epic.

No standalone, no play.

I do not and will not use TFT.

If Steam is the only option what are the chances of all your stand-alone MTXs being ported over?
