Radio silence = Crunch time
" Honestly, that's another thing that gets irksome about PoE, though I imagine it will be equally irksome in PoE2. The constant press for a shorter, shorter, shorter, shorter league cycle leaves people who aren't Religion of Zoom speed demons out in the cold. It's already the case that if I can't play a new PoE league directly on opening weekend? There's very little reason for me to play that league at all. By the time the second weekend rolls around, most of the content locusts are already gone and we're getting "League is dead, when next league" threads in the forums. Legit makes Standard feel attractive, however cool a new league might be. |

" I don't think PoE2 is going to follow this same pattern; Jonathan tends to step pretty gingerly around the topic, but has admitted several times now that the top end of the speed range is going to be reined in to something like sanity, in order to make space for interesting mechanics that happen at a speed that players can actually see and interact with. Even in PoE1, Mark has talked about being determined to drag the game in a better direction even as they preserve what's good about it. I read that as both game directors being very much aware of this exact problem, and being determined to both fix it (in the existing game) and avoid it (in the new one). So while I feel your frustration with this aspect of the way PoE has evolved, I don't think that the Church of Zoom or the Content Locusts (lovely turns of phrase BTW) are going to continue dominating PoE1 forever, let alone be allowed to dominate PoE2. They'll still be around; ARPGs generally tend to be fast games, and PoE had a home-grown racing and speed-running community from very early on. But one of the things I'm looking forward to is a return to the more measured speed and pants-shitting intensity that made me fall in love with the original game. TLDR, don't let the "dead league" threads get you down. GGG are very much working to ensure that positivity prevails. 19 more sleeps... The artist formerly known as Waitubold. Overall speed of play isn't going to have any real impact on the folks who get done with a league in two weeks and then spend the remaining two and a half months complaining about the death of the league. Those folks are gonna be done with a league long before the three or four month mark regardless of whether it takes them two days or four to get to endgame. Early PoE2 will take longer, for sure, and I'm deeply looking forward to the Wild West period on release when nobody has Solved The Game yet, but it's not going to stop 'NEW LEAGUE WHEN ' griping from the people who want a two-week league cadence.

" True, but there's only so much that can be done to manage other folks' expectations, or to save them from their own un-fun behaviors. As long you're not letting it kill your enjoyment, that's the main thing. The wild west period is something I'm looking forward to, too - I'm actively avoiding spoilers and speculation about the game so that I can in as fresh as possible on the day. I dunno, Bold. At this point I'm honestly starting to doubt we're getting the November 15th drop after all. We're closing in on twenty days without word one from the team, and the next best thing to only two weeks before their alleged drop date. There's no way a company wouldn't be dropping teasers and charging the hype engine at this stage if they actually meant to be releasing the game on the given date.
I'm bracing my butt for an announcement of another delay. Thinking other folks should start getting ready to not play PoE2 on the 15th, however damaging a second delay would be to GGG and PoE2. |

I think the radio silence is a good sign

I don't think there is any pressure for them to produce leagues faster, some players want them to go back to the old 13 weeks but I also think most are happy with the 4 month cycle.
The reason they are getting stick right now is they are being silent for basically no reason (outwardly, internally i'm sure there is one), which is never a good sign. I don't actually care if they delay the next league until next year even though i'd prefer december - however I'd like to have a vague idea of whats going on because they are producing an exciting piece of entertainment i want to engage with. They usually communicate fairly reliably and on this one I expected a "we are gonna aim for this week, might get pushed back to the following week" for the reveal and something similar for the beta. They aren't usually shy about just saying how it is and that's all i'd like :D |
|
That's kinda my thing, yeah. GGG being this absolutely dead silent is weird. Sure, they get memed on for Announcing the Announcement, but at least when they do that we know what's up. The dead void of utter silence is kinna unnerving from a company that's normally this talkative.
