Build diversity is still terrible

There is nothing stopping you from playing a non-meta build, but don't expect it to be as powerful or as easy to gear as a meta build.

I disagree. There is a very powerful (on paper) melee build which uses a cheap unique weapon. In comparison, the meta builds require some pretty crazy rares which are heavily sought after and thus quite expensive. The build I am referring to is this one

https://poe.ninja/builds/settlers/character/Cleanuser121/%EC%B0%8C%EB%B4%89%EC%8A%A4%EB%81%BC?type=exp&i=0&search=items%3DKaom%2527s%2BPrimacy%26sort%3Ddps

I am not a melee expert, so I can't gauge how strong it is but the numbers look pretty good.

I think it's all about game knowledge and outdated expectations.

Some people are stuck on the idea of "75% resistances being enough". Some people are stuck on the idea of "you need 100k+ armor to survive". Others are stuck on the obsolete notion of you needing 6k+ life.

The game is evolving, with both new challenges, but also new offensive and defensive tools to beat said challenges.

I'm SO glad that PoE isn't a game with just "offense" and "defense" rating (like certain other games), but a game that actually have some substance and depth. There are tons of defensive tools/options in the game that you can mix and match depending on your goals and playstyle. Sure, some are better than others (I'm looking at you, Spell Suppression and Endurance Charges), but we have so many (mostly) overlooked defensive options.

They are not optional they are all required.

If you take a T17 map and list the requirements to run them.
Its max every defensive category in fact overcapped several.
So at that point when you map out in a PoB what is required to achieve that base.
You end up with precious few build options that are viable.
Sure you can make a ton of builds specialized to an aspect of the game, blight or whatever but by making so many defensive holes in the dam to plug.
You run out of fingers to do anything else fun and interesting.
Also most builds seem to be going some kind of edgelord build of non stop pixel vomit by incorporating some strange synergy, ... im all over a build of minimal graphical output with a set of obvious synergies to work with ...

That's just wrong, sorry. We see tons of builds on all ascendancies crushing T17s every day. "A precious few"? No. Just no.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

what jitter said is something i mentioned. arguing about build diversity is actually the wrong argument to have.

because there are not "a precious few". there are a butt load of viable builds.

the problem is to get there some builds have an easier time becoming viable compared to others. which is the real point of argument.

The issue here is the definition of what defines a build that can do content. You want to never die in T17's and ubers? You want to ignore pinnacle mechanics with unreasonably high DPS? yeah by that definition there aren't as many options ( and there are still plenty ). If you move the goal post to being good enough to do those things within 6 portals the list is extremely long.

I have 40/40'd the last two leagues with self made builds that are 1 of 1 on poe ninja. Did I do it all deathless? No. Did I clear every uber I entered? Absolutely not. But I did manage to get every achievement with a one of a kind build without any carries.

So no, build diversity isn't terrible unless your expectation is to steamroll everything in the game. The fact that people tend to flock to the meta builds is always true and has no bearing on build diversity.

? On HC maybe on SC this is so far from the truth.

If you can drop a portal to an occasional death the defensive requirements are cut down massively and frankly more dps will solve the remaining issues not more tank.

so that 400+ div build is cheap now? Even that weapon is not cheap, the double corrupt is insane.
Current Build: Penance Brand
God build?! https://pobb.in/bO32dZtLjji5
^ you can do probably 50% of the damage for like 2 div though

I think you guys are overlooking that all an exert stacker needs (despite immense willpower to put up with the playstyle) is an echoes of creation and a suitable weapon

You can then make pretty much anything that's tagged as a slam work. Its just earthshatter and snaking snek multi hit so drastically outperform the other slams. Which is dumb but oh many snaking snek is very fun
What, I bought the same weapon for like 3 divines. You guys can't trade or something

Except when you actually check trade literally all 22 of the axes with this double-corrupt are from offline people that posted them 2 months ago, prices going from 1 div to 2 div then suddenly 1 guy for 120 divines. Good luck ever getting this item now that the league is dead like 3 months in lol

You must have bought it way earlier, because now it would be impossible to buy. None of those players will be online again, and there are 0 online selling the axe.
