Chat GPT is the best thing to happen to this game for New Players
" I like how you cut the quote off there...and just either didnt read the response before that one, or even the paragraph after the line you quoted just to try and get a "gatcha" moment. That's not the point. At the higher end, PoE has complexity that most if not all the other competing arpgs lack. That's the reason why many of us are STILL here after a decade+, or many years. BUT The actual point was that the fundamental character creation, item mods, how you go about creating a successful character, choosing and buffing a skill etc., is all nearly the same as every other arpg. We are in a thread about a BEGINNER who needs chatgpt just to get through the story. It LOOKS different, but functionally isn't any different. And I really hate it when people say how "complicated" poe is. Yes, I would argue it is no more complicated than D4 is when it comes to understanding how to make a character work. You talk of having only two choices in D4. That's true....but in PoE when you've figured out what skill you want and what class you started with, you are RARELY presented with more than "two" or a few options. Supports roll out bit by bit, by level, and if you actually read what they do there is very little variation there when playing 95% of the skills. The tree branches slowly, and the newer player is not going to be looking all the way across the tree and thinking about efficient pathing from Marauder to Witch. It always comes back to the same thing: someone says how complicated the game is. You "can't play" without guides. You "can't make a functional character" without wxyz layers and items, 100k ehp, etc. You "can't beat any boss" without watching a youtube video, or following a meta build, etc. That's all nonsense from people who don't even bother trying to understand the fundamentals of the game. Which is rather pathetic, BECAUSE those fundamentals are the same as every other arpg. If you can build a character in D4, you can absolutely build a character in PoE. It's not going to be anything special, but it'll get you through the story and probably well into maps. The only instances where that might not be true is DoT and possibly ailment builds simply because the tooltip is REALLY bad for those. Last edited by jsuslak313 on Sep 10, 2024, 6:17:30 PM

" I genuinely reduced the quotes because it makes for a neater thread. It wasn't intended to hit a nerve. I don't know you, I don't care to "getcha", I was just curious about your stance. |

Some of these replies read like AI speak. Whether intentional or not, is the question...

" Point taken, sorry. I thought I answered the question you asked pretty thoroughly in my earlier two posts... |

Grim Dawn (GD) has a high complexity.
I play it only for 1-2 weeks a few times per year. In GD your char has 2 classes at the same time usualy. Each class has its own skill tree. Even after 100s of h play timne I have difficulties to remember which skill belongs to which class. In PoE classes and skills are independent what gives PoE a huge freedom of builds, though most possible combinations are not useful. That's the same in GD. In GD you can add easily extra skills given by items or constellations. In GD the stellar constellations look a little similar (at first view) to the PoE passives tree. Means both are intimidating at first (and second). Resis, procs and Dots exists in both games as a lot of names/vocabular to learn. In GD when special skills proc they are replacing other skills. Items can be "crafted/enchanted" (PoE words) with a component and a augmentation from a big list. Pure crafting exists too. I think when you "subtract" legacy items and no longer existing old mechanics PoE is near the complexity of GD. Summary: The free skill socketing and the 3-4 month update cyclus make PoE more complex than GD. The endgame in and the random areas are PoE advantages. For some PoE players GD would be too slow. " This has to be a bot. I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game.

I totally agree with the sentiment here that ChatGPT has been a game-changer for new players in Path of Exile. As someone who's been playing for a while, I remember how daunting the skill tree and various mechanics felt at first. Even experienced players like me sometimes need help with specific builds or crafting methods, and having a tool like ChatGPT allows us to get immediate, concise answers without scouring wikis or forum posts.
While PoE will always have a steep learning curve, having ChatGPT feels like having a mentor that can help with anything from build optimization to understanding game mechanics. In comparison, I feel like Grim Dawn's complexity is a bit easier to grasp due to its more traditional ARPG systems. Still, PoE’s depth is what keeps me engaged long-term, and the ability to get personalized advice in real-time enhances that experience even further. For those who argue that it’s making the game "too easy," I think there’s still a significant amount of skill and knowledge required to execute any advice given. It just makes it easier to digest, which I think benefits both new and returning players. |

" Strongly agree. If intentional, it certainly made me smile. Or smirk anyway. Softcore, solo self-found.
