why 4 months
I just jumped into the league. SSF, so trade doesnt bother me.
If possible, the experience is always way better, compared to league start, with all the server and bug issues. | |

" actually not having seasons is how it used to be. back long ago when we had expansions instead of dlcs. and if we're talking innovation on temp league content, last epoch has already beat ggg to the punch. theyre implementing cycles, where in a new cycle, there will be a temp "league" as usual, but the difference is both "standard" and temp league gain access to cycle content. BUT with the caveat that the end game bosses tied to the cycle are locked on standard. they will only be unlocked once someone has cleared that boss on the temp league. pretty brilliant to me. also a whole lot of love to standard players. i m sick and tired of all the players who would shit on standard/permanent league, admittedly i believe they are right that temp content is the focus of arpg companies nowadays. and it frustrates me when so many temp league enjoyers tend to just shit on standard andys. so its real refreshing to see that LE/EHG has made this new "league" that has a lot of consideration to its standard players. now that i think about it. poe leagues are far from what they originally started. they used to be the place to beta test new league mechanics on a fresh new league. bringing home gear and even league exclusive gear was the incentive to play temp leagues. now we dont even have the guarantee that we can bring gear back to standard, since its now the "main" way to play the game. with so much reckless abandon to standard i dont see a reason why GGG cant just adopt cycles into poe1. the main intention is numbers no? standard players have ZERO reason to bitch about not being able to access the temp content or kirac's pass, while it has zero effect to temp leaguers. it will bolster the player count more since standard players are more keen to play temp leagues with the godly gear. Preaching to the choir, friend. I was there.
And I'm not surprised LE has an evolution to the league/season element -- it's a premium GaaS made by ex-Exiles. The whole game oozes 'we tried to fix PoE but forgot to make a truly original game in the process'. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

" You should have designed a hammer, not two swords. Because you hit that nail right on the head. :P Only enjoyed LE for a brief, very limited period of… 800 hours. 😅 The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

" Well, league/season for this type of game is what works, so it would be dumb for them not to. It's also very misleading to say LE is not original when Diablo, PoE and LE all have the same core elements of ARPG, but all three have very distinctive ways they go about loot, crafting and endgame loop. Ruthless should be [Removed by Support]. Last edited by AdRonZh3Ro on Jun 29, 2024, 1:09:23 PM

Sure but pretty much every other ARPG I've played has at least something close to a memorable setting and lore. LE was meant to be this brilliant Diablo x PoE x Chrono Trigger idea and while I can see it in practice, at no point did it really grab me or stick in my brain. And I can't tell you why. That should have been a slam dunk of a design.
Everything else EHG did? The deterministic crafting? The skill trees? Passives? Class diversity and flexibility? Lovely. But absolutely a response to PoE first and foremost. __
Spoiler
Funny you'd say that about hammers -- I got 'over' swords not long after making Oni-Goroshi for PoE and moved onto hammers. Specifically flails. Very interesting weapon, the flail. Historically debated in terms of utility, and chances are the morning star version (spiked ball and chain) was never used in combat at all. So while the protag of my first book (written way the fuck back in 2015, arguably at the height of my PoE addiction and posting as 'Charan') is all about WHOO KATATA ARE SO COOL...For the past few years I've been much more interested in how blunt force trauma works. In the sheer amount of superhuman skill you'd need to wield a ball and chain effectively -- it's like a really clumsy nunchaku.
So in an alternative universe, I'd have kept a PoE 1 design slot and made a hammer, perhaps. Although a talking, flaming katana is a bitch to outdo. Literally. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

LE : solved ssf vs trade
chefs kiss evolved the concept of leagues ohmaigawd made crafting easy to get into, GENEROUS with resources but still have an "end game chase". ooof so good. imho the only thing theyre lacking atm is graphics. d4 surpassed them. poe2 will be on par with d4, LE will lag behind. as for hammers, i like listening to shadiversity in the background, shad covers medieval melee weapons. hammers deliver a lot of concentrated force and is a very powerful weapon which can cause a ton of focused damage. iirc he covered flails and nunchucks saying how due to the "ball and chain" nature, the force of the impact will be lessened as it is not connected to a solid shaft so the "damage part" bounces off the target somewhat thus reducing the damage. if we're talking blunt weapons, my personal fav is actually a quarterstaff [Removed by Support]

Not a fan of the dude but he's largely right there. You think it'd be like nunchaku but the design isn't right since you're not creating a fulcrum between the two weighted ends equally. But in the hands of a 'not quite human' character, a spiked ball and chain can still be devastating and sure is a fucktonne of fun to write. :) Rule of Cool rules all.
I almost made a makeshift naginata for PoE 1 too. Do you remember how *badass* the Shadow used to look with the staff in the game? He held it backhand and behind his back sort of. Rule of Cool shit through the roof. The Double Strike animation was glorious. So if we're talking sticks, I prefer the 3 foot one over 5+. Same reason I prefer one handed swordfighting over two -- flexibility and creativity. Using a 'hanbo' to grapple is just something you can't do with a full length 'bo'. Also law of averages: you're probably more likely to find a 3 foot length of portable stiffness over a 6 foot one. I think there's some cosmic reason why the vast majority of melee weapons are some variant on 2 to 3 feet straight lines: it's a great balance of weight, speed and ubiquity. Probably a little phallic too. None of which has diddly squat to do with the league length but hey. But maybe it does. If we can figure an optimal length for a simple melee weapon based on flexibility, creative potential, ease of learning, and accessibility, then why not an optimal length for a league based on a similar criteria? As good a metric as any if it helps keep leagues fresh and appealing, engaging and enduring. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable. " witch with 2 handed swords is super cool. i actually feel that dual wielding in real life is kinda BS. even when you're ambidextrous, to exert more force out of a swing, we spin our bodies. holding a weapon with one hand could mean less energy transferred to each weapon. might work with "lighter" weapons but in most cases its not as powerful as going 1 handed. but due to rule of cool, i close both eyes. same applies to dual wielding guns. i wonder how far GGG will implement pole arm classes in poe2. spears are confirmed. their current implementation is the stabby kind, not the huge ass swings kind. reminds me... we need more scythes. rule of cool.
