why 4 months

Dude. It's almost a parody at this point. But let's salvage this. How long do we think PoE 2's seasons/leagues will be? It'll come down to what I floated in that other thread: just how complex they are and how well the core game hosts them. Or maybe just whichever duration GGG figure will get them the most revenue to pay the dividends...me, cynical? Never. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable. Last edited by Foreverhappychan on Jun 25, 2024, 2:43:54 AM

" Same! It breaks my heart to see the game I love neglected in favor of a different game. |

" I think ideally they would like to have those quarterly revenue bursts. If they had their druthers, it would be 3 month leagues staggered with PoE1. Can they actually pull that off though? Seems super ambitious dev cycle wise for both games to be maintained at a high quality level. That said I do believe they are going to at least try it. I think they should, especially if the core game is solid. And I would wager right now it'll land a LOT more solidly than PoE 1 did. PoE 1 wasn't really set up for leagues in concrete durations or even beyond (pun intended) a handful of basic mutator ideas. PoE is going to be futureproofed a lot harder imo. Or at least, they'd be foolish not to try.

" I suspect leagues will be elongated or at least maintained at 4 months. POE will have a competitor like it didn't have before: POE. They will, at least for the foreseeable future, be supporting both in some form or fashion. I'm not sold on POE2 at all so I'll be playing POE1 if I have to choose between the two. Who knows how big or small a demographic I represent. Probably small, but who knows. They would probably rather maximize both with staggered league starts. POE1 league dies down, POE2 league starts. POE2 league dies down, POE1 league starts. That opens a whole new topic about burnout, which I'm sure is a discussion that we'll be having later. Last edited by Nubatron on Jun 25, 2024, 5:37:28 PM

" I haven't kept up with their claims/offerings/plans for parallel development/updating/maintenance but...I would place about as much faith in them as I did in the notion that PoE 2 would be a functioning part of PoE 1. I was right that whole time, rare as it is, and I've nothing to lose believing there won't be much of it at all. There aren't many precedents for it and I don't think I've ever seen it work well. Everquest 1 and 2 maybe? Guild Wars 1 and 2 -- not so much, almost everyone hauled ass to 2 because it was a strong as hell continuation of the game world. OTOH I've never seen a GaaS F2P ARPG get a sequel so it's all rather intriguing. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

there definitely are ways to keep poe1 enjoyable.
i actually feel their plans for leagues in poe1 as reasonable. tho i really feel they should start importing POE2 features into POE1 for starters the new skill gem system. another is by introducing actual new ascendencies. alternate skill trees can be another idea which we actually have in a way via tattoos and timeless jewel manipulation. increasing the duration of leagues to me is good for "le casual gamer". which i have recently realized where i m at. Honestly they should stick with 4 months for larger changes, ability changes and such and do two 2 month leagues during that time.
One with just a new league mechanic and soft reset and the other one with the big regular changes and also a reset and new league mechanic. The so sorry casual gamer would still have more than enough time even during two months giving how easy everything is these days :^) Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. " I suspect that the very nightmare that would have been trying to import poe2 ideas into poe1 is why they made the sane choice to start from scratch. And that includes the new skill gem system. The existing one is basically PoE 1's identity. It'd be one of the first things people think of when asked to say what makes PoE 1 unique as an arpg and a game. I'd honestly be gearing up to say goodbye to PoE 1 if I hadn't already. And so what? It's had a great run but come on. Its...so old now. And not in the classic timeless sense. In the outdated sense. GGG know it. Their owners know it. It is more than enough that they get the chance to prove PoE 1 wasn't a fluke. And you don't do that by wasting energy on something obsolete. Pray for a passion project offline mode. That would be the best fate for PoE 1 now. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.
