Last best league in your opinion?
I feel like there's currently a mix of people who have dropped PoE for good (or at least this league) and people who still play but just wish it was better/in a previous state.
So IYO what do you think was the LAST best league you enjoyed to the fullest (and why)? Could say Necropolis too if you actually enjoyed it. Last edited by kyobusa on May 23, 2024, 3:07:43 PM Last bumped on Jul 16, 2024, 4:08:33 PM

The last four years (since Delirium league), there are only three league where I just couldn't stop playing; Sentinel, Affliction and Necropolis.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

Ritual - It felt like the last time you could a functional, non-gimmick, not looking for a weird interaction, not-use-cooldown-recovery-COC meat and potatoes build without using outside tools and calculations.
If you really just mean the league mechanic, then Ancestor, Heist were interesting. I prefer interesting new content to just juicing maps (which we have all played in the thousands). Just preference though.
Ancestor was my favorite of the ones I played. The league mechanic was incredibly interesting and opened a lot of nice build customization options but was just really really awfully implemented. The base game in Ancestors was excellent, the 3.23 balance changes were incredibly poorly implemented, a few builds benefited a decent amount from the changes but most were significantly weakened and quite a few were killed outright because GGG apparently is as bad about releasing half baked bullshit as Riot instead of waiting for their replacement for the systems they were deleting to be actually ready. Affliction was well received almost solely on the back of the league mechanic and a few interesting transmuted gems. Necropolis has an in theory interesting mechanic, in practice its as terribly executed as Ancestors and Crucible were and had the misfortune of being the second league in a row to see serious nerfs. At least 3.23 was just taking power out of a lot of builds end games, 3.24 had general loot nerfs and a ton of QoL removal.

Affliction wasn't that bad, i remember i ended it by farming and obtaining two hideouts; moon temple & dig maps. Heist and Betrayal had best contents add-ons, after that staying in a whole league depends of personal life and success of build(s) made, so it's pretty unstable variable. On the very extreme aspect of the game i can post this league was some kind of "death experience" ... Path of Exile Invasion League Something that new players will never experience again ! |

This league has kicked up the end game bosses to an extreme, which I welcome so much.
There will always be ways around anything, but being a masochist and choosing some T17 map mods that will seriously challenge-me/knock-my-dick-in-the-dirt has been refreshing (except those petri statues, dem can go eff themselves). -Time to be funny. The world needs funny right now! Warning: "Might" get you muted.

Ultimatum was the peak for me. Tons of viable builds. Loved Ultimatum itself, and for the first and last time played one of my favorite builds - Spellsinger. Since then no new league could really peak my interest (in terms of new mechanics). Probably would have enjoyed Expedition since I farmed logbooks like crazy for some 3 leagues, but I didn't play the Expedition league much because nerfs killed the fun for me.
Last league I played a lot was TOTA, but ironically I haven't played a single match of TOTA itself, but did many other stuff like logbooks, Sanctums, Grand Heists and Simulacrums.
Blight was my fav.

Thinking about this turned into a tier list.
From latest to oldest in each tier: S: Necropolis, Ritual, Harbinger, Legacy*, Prophecy, Perandus A: Affliction, Crucible, Sentinel, Archnemesis, Scourge, Harvest B: Expedition, Metamorph, Synthesis, Delve, Bestiary, Abyss, Essence C: Sanctum, Delirium, Betrayal, Breach, Talisman D: Ancestor, Ultimatum, Heist, Blight, Legion. Incursion F: Kalandra (truly, the nothingburger of leagues) * Since Legacy was just pairs of older league mechanics that hadn't gone core like Beyond and Rampage, I haven't assigned any of those to tiers on their own. Remember, remember the 6th of December... Last edited by Waitubold on May 23, 2024, 8:54:29 PM

I consider leagues that I go 38/40 or 40/40 leagues I enjoy the fullest.
Affliction: I was able to make a lot of currency doing the varied things I wanted to do and not what GGG forces me to do. Crucible: New meta builds. Affliction: New and fun Atlas changes. Scarab rain. 8 mod maps are the new alch and go.
