Can i buy POE 1 as an offline game

Good idea, release source code so I can host my own servers and achieve bigger CCU than official Stuck In The Past Vision :)

Note to self: shortlist of things to fix first

1) remove exp penalty. Maybe add it back after long work of fixing mobs is done. Currently it kills any desire to experiment.

2) new trading system. Client already has UI for showing MTX lists, trade can work off that base.

3) loot. Ooof this will be tough to fix, with GGG pretending that "dropping full screen of items no one ever looks at" is normal. Should revamp item generation so base loot would be better, but make crafting less powerful, so minmaxing this loot would still be relatively expensive and serve as gold sink.

4) boss design. Anyone seen other game where bosses happily camp inside their ground degens (or lycia staff hazards) for unknown period of time and keep shooting player from there while player cannot approach them in melee at all? Seriously, this is some indie-grade gameplay. Bosses should avoid impassable areas, and even if that fails, hazards around their destination should be despawned.

5) player skills parity. Lots of underperforming skills to boost, lots of busted interactions to cap.

6) QoL. Hideout identifying station, aoe pickup hotkey, MTX pet pickup, "stash all" button with filters, etc.

I like what you say here. ( melee for sure without a single doubt deserve some love, and that is something i would 110 % use the editor to fix )

You probably don't know this, but they'd have to rewrite the entire client to be able to work remotely without an internet connection, because right now all calculations are done server-
side.

Ah, so speculations and guessing are the new form of expertise? Interesting theory. Meanwhile, in the real world, having a local server setup is just standard practice for any competent developer.

In real world most competent mmo/multi developers will never make client side calculations, lol.
Biggest compliments for my crafted items - "bs, they must have been RMT'ed"

I'm disabled, I have rare case of semperduravera, so I can write things that may look rude, but it is because of disability - I'm forced to tell truth using words you may not like.

That's not speculation, it is a fact. Not a hard concept to grasp if you have the tiniest glint on how software works. Which is good, otherwise this game would have died from rampant cheating long ago.

Meanwhile, in the real world, 99% of PoE players wouldn't be able to setup the necessary databases and software to run a server locally. They struggle to run the game as is on their decade old hardware and blame the "servers", not having the slightest hint what an server actually is.

But discussing any of this is a waste of time, really. Other than someone actually reverse engineering the game and providing an emulator, which in itself is less likely than me winning the lottery without playing, you all will never get your hands on any of this. No offline mode, no editor, nothing.

The very notion of GGG converting their live service cashcow into a one-time purchase title is hilarious at best.

Where's the speculation?
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

Seems like containerization might be a new concept for you, and others.
OP has brought a very good point! Many players (me included) don’t mind spending a few bucks if the game can go offline. I stopped buying mtxs because I don’t want to support the devs who are making the game worse. So a offline version of POE 1 could be a win-win for both players and devs.

Everyone says GGG this and GGG that. Shouldn't we be saying Tencent?

This is 100% correct, in this context. We don't know to what extent GGG manages their forecast and it's almost certain they don't directly control what their budget is each FY. Their contraction last year could mean their budget was reduced and this could be a downward trend until PoE2 comes out.

The level of Damage-control this league, and the limited comms from the team the last 2 years is disheartening. I miss GGG from the Awakening era where I was buying their merch, everything seemed so local (I live in Auckland NZ) and I was always pumped about the team and their product.

Can't say there's any other game I've played for 11 years though.
I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game.
What the heck is this but hurt thread.

Why are you even playing this game if it's so bad, like you say? You said that games are for having fun, then just move on if you don't have fun.

Or do what Chris Wilson did: You don't like the current (ARPG) gaming market - just create your own game. I mean you talk like this is super easy.....

I really prefer that the things are run by GGG and not some dudes with no idea from the community. Even if I don't like every change - they already kept me entertained for >1.300 hours and I spend maybe €100. This is 7.7 ct/h - where do you get such a good deal?

How about birdwatching? It has an initial cost of $20 for a pair of binoculars and maybe $5 for a bird identification book, both which will last you 20+ years.

8 hours/day * 365 days/year = 2920 hours/year
2920 hours * 20 years = 58400 hours
---
$0.000428 / hour
