Anyone feel like defense is a little too hard to build these days?
From my perspective, the problem is that the game corral us way too much in certain directions
Diversity is not even the issue, there are tons of ways to make it work, but the problem is that we are corraled to one of these. We have to pick a set and have to stick to a certain road. Yeah, it will always happen to a certain point, having to pick something and focusing on it is natural for any rpg, but the game currently restricts too much the way we can mix things. Even stuff that SHOULD have decent sinergy like aegis +shavs/coruscat is hard to work outside some VERY specific setups Its not even that the variety of what works is small, the issue for the is that we have to pick some damn specific setups and the room available to deviate from there is super small
I think the core of the issue is that GGG want's the game to be hard and unforgiving and is heavily pushing in that direction. Meanwhile players want a chill experience and therefor try to negate al the malicious stuff GGG puts in. That ends up with us having to cross a ton of check marks on a build making us feel like we have to go in certain directions.
I believe that a lot of the problems in this game would not exist if GGG focused on making it fun and engaging instead of just trying to kill players with whatever means available. Difficulty is important, things get boring without it, but the way you implement it makes a huge difference. This game isn't even that difficult, you just get killed a ton by unintuitiv/unexplained/invisible nonsense. All this does is increase the death count, it doesn't make the game more interesting or challenging because 9 times out of 10 there is nothing for you to learn from a death. " lets not pretend like this is how most people die. most people die because they run at breakneck speeds and get 1 shot to something they cant react to in time.. all the while having 4k hp no dodge no block no armor no dmg converion no nothing. just a 4khp pimple ready to pop at any second
I am typically one of those guys pointing out build issues when someone complains so i can't really pretend that it's not a build issue most of the time, it is.
At the same time it's also a fact that this game has a ton of random bullshit in it that's really obnoxious to figure out. Like that stasis debuff during delirium slowing you down AND disabling your movement skill. No counter measure, randomly applied during deli encounters and a surefire death when applied in the wrong situation. Same for the stackable debuff that reduces life recovery. Everything goes smooth and all of a sudden you die to your own trauma/RF because your recovery is gone and you don't even know why. Or tormented spirits possessing bosses, sometimes you don't even notice it and other times they suddenly hit like uber eater. I've been playing on and off for 5 years now and i put quite a bit of effort into understanding and solving problems presented by the game but even with all that i still find myself thinking "why the fuck did that so much damage just now" quite a lot and half the times i die i have to guess why i died in this situation while my life didn't budge at all in the 99 similar situations i've had before. The other half is me not noticing a rare mod that disables my build like flask siphon against my pathfinder. Last edited by Baharoth15 on Sep 18, 2023, 6:48:55 AM

The other option is to just get a massive load of damage and not care if you die a bit. Don't play a HC build with lower DPS just because you think you should pretend you are playing HC if you aren't. The two builds I have had the most fun with have been the two highest damage builds, included my current one.

" Once in a while you can make a "snowflake" build that is great at destroying bosses and is fast. But playing and thinking that I can die all the time and so what, seems ridiculous to me. |
|
" It is more that there are probably a lot people not having fun because they are trying to build a character that never dies when they would have a lot more fun if they were happy with more easy to get damage and dying every few maps.
" Your philosophy doesn't appeal to me However, if it makes you happy, then do it |
|
" it's possible to make a build that never dies and one shots everything in maps on mid budget " and again, I want to emphasize this, my characters get tankier and tankier every league, because the power creep also applies to defense. yes, we deal more and more damage every league, but we also get more defensive layers. it's not the game's fault when you decide to not have any of the potential layers Last edited by auspexa on Sep 18, 2023, 9:03:13 AM
