What do you think about the fact that Diablo 4 has copied POE wholesale?

And I can admit that I'm also a part of the problem, because sooner or later I'd probably buy the next ten Diablo games even if the previous ones would be complete garbage, because you still have this hope that a company that once made masterpieces like D1-2, W3, vanilla WoW, Starcraft can do it again.

I am you, except this is their last chance with me. If D4 sucks, I am pretty much writing off Blizz for good. I went from the guy standing in line at release, to the guy who is ready to just bail on the company entirely.

The thing is though, "sucks" is subjective, and in many cases not even really how players feel about the game, just how they want others to believe that's how they feel. It's so odd regarding Diablo. I call it Diablo Derangement Syndrome.

People love to post and speak publicly in a negative fashion about Blizzard, but privately willing to spend money and play the games at an absurd rate. It's actually a joke.

D3 for example, one.of the greatest games of all time, 65 million copies, 11 years, and 28 seasons later it's still popular. It's not the trash people on these forums and reddit say (and half of them still play it seasonally).

Point is, most everyone is going to be playing and buying D4. Let's not kid ourselves about some arbitrary, ethical line in the sand that people are drawing. I flat out don't believe them. Maybe I'm reading the room wrong, but I expect an unprecedented launch in terms of sales, concurrency, Twitch viewership, social marketing, etc..

If you really are going to sit out on then next-gen version of the greatest arpg franchise of all-time, go ahead and punish yourself lol.

I can't do it. D3 is still fresh in my mind, and then they did Diablo Immortal. Good on you both for being able to move on, but I can't seem to get it out of my head that they wrecked the Diablo franchise. POE at least tried to carry the torch for D2. It's not the same, not by a long shot, but it feels closer to the spirit of customization and itemization of D2 than D3 ever did.

RIP Blizzard North

For the record the Diablo franchise is perfectly fine. Wrecked? Please.

ALL of the Blizzrad North folks, including Brevik, went on to do absolutely nothing of note when they left. Besides a bankrupted Marvel Heroes which had a few moments.

I understand you have feelings about Blizzard and Diablo, but you can't just make things up that are not true.

Yup, wrecked for me. Without question. Storyline was ripped apart. Character customization as shallow as a puddle. Itemization even more shallow. Items raining as if there is a deep itemization (there isn't). Characters built out in a matter of hours. No trading.

You like to pull out game revenue as the metric to prove people wrong. I'm sure you're a huge Candy Crush advocate as well? Unfortunately for you and your appeal to majority based argument, this is a personal discussion about me and they wrecked it for me.

Diablo 2 was a great game. It just didn't evolve and is over two decades dated. Diablo 3 was the opportunity to build on that great foundation. They chose to go closer to the WoW crowd in visuals and gameplay with little notable depth. That worked well for smoothness of combat, but really missed the D2 boat on depth.

RIP Diablo 2 successor....except maybe POE.

As a true Diablo og at this point I have a bit of Diablo fatigue, especially with what I've seen of D4. Same goes for Poe and Poe2.

I pre-purchased and bought kfc keys to give to my friends. I am going to try it out, and if they monetize like they do their other games, I am gone. I have no problem walking away from a bad investment, as can be shown with my uninstalling of PoE. I have thousands spent here, but the last 4/6 leagues have been trainwrecks so I uninstalled and have no intention of coming back until at least 2.0.

Man, you nailed it 100%.
i dont think the people shitting on d4 are the same people that actually want to play it

you see people wanting d4 to fail here because this place is the perfect echo chamber to do so. and half the reason why the echo chamber exists in the first place is because deeeeeeep down inside everyone knows the diablo franchise is more successful than poe. technically poe has made more money than d3 at this point.. but at the cost of so much more money re-invested into its game every year over 10+ years and even then its only barely beating a basic p2p d3. and all of that about to be undone with a d4 release.
