Development Manifesto: Harvest Crafting
Barely Related, but the only other thread with this much reply is the Trade Manifesto, and it only has 742 replies.
I still don't see why some people are saying "Harvest nerf is good" I really want to understand the other point of view, but I see "This is OP" "Game is too easy". "This is OP" OP is something you would qualify Winter Orb skill gem. Deterministic Craft with RNG involves is not OP as it doesn't affect how powerfull each mods are by themselves. It makes those mod more available (Using this term very generously) but it doesn't make it OP. If Harvest would allow you to get Mods that don't exist outside of harvest, then I would agree, but it not the case. If crafting is too OP, why keep harvest at all? I liked the first iterration because I had some control over my RNG (Relating to Monster encounters) and it allowed me to break the monotony of brainless mappins. All those "OP crafting" were just a good incentive to play the side content. "It makes the game too easy" This is not a competitive FPS or RTS, its an ARPG with apparently many different builds options. If Harvest crafting makes it too easy, why not remove Fossil crafting. Why keep Beast crafting possible. What about Delirium with its Cluster Jewels. All of those things made the item aquisition easier and made the meta build even stronger (AKA make the game easier). I don't like delving, I don't like fossil crafting, but I'm force into it for Sockets crafts. Why not move it to Conqueror fights. The only Reason I go back to the new (And worst IMO) harvest, is because I might be able to craft 1 amazing piece of gear instead of trading for it. You know, playing the game instead of spending 20 minutes to, maybe, trade a upgrade to my gear. Let the crafters craft, let the players play and let people have fun. "Easier crafting will ruin the economy!". How is that a problem? Cheaper item will only allow more people to enjoy the game, you know, kill monsters, bosses and creat original builds. I didn't creat my account a few years ago because "POE economy is great", I did it because I saw the passive and thought "Wow, so many possibilities", I saw there weird interaction with unique and rare items and tought "I wonder what I should play next once I'm done with this character" Never did I think it would devolve into "Crafting must be balance towards economy and trade, at the cost of 80% of the player's enjoyment" Before someone goes and say "Why do I care for the nerf then?", because some usefull items will no longer be available to the average player. Price will skyrocket out of control. I don't care about trade and most the craft (Beside workbench crafting). But current POE is in this current state. I'm already "Forced" into trading to help my very bad RNG (Or regular POE RNG, doesn't really matter), at least don't make it impossible for regular players to gain amazing items. TL:DR Let the crafter craft, let the player play, let people have fun like they want. Don't punish everyone because 1% of people were misbehaving, this is bad practice. For me ritual league is the first time I have begun to craft, and it's bring me a wider range of objetives to the game, and a more or less straight forward path to obtain top tier items, I will never obtain the 'final version' of them but at least I know goals, can fight for them and have a funnier item progresion than before.
I'm feeling that part of the game has lost and I must return to obtain currency to trade items. |

" Joke on you, they punish everyone because 1% want it. Anw, had fun with ritual, especially with harvest for self crafting and early steady income. And thanks to some certain streamers sharing knownlegde, i can do some good gearing. Think i will skip till further poe 2 information. Or some good league information. Do not let some thing as entertainment live rent free in your head, if you think it not good, move on. If it good again, just come back. |

IF you nerf harvest into semi useless-tier also completely rework it so it isn't as time consuming?
Just have Harvest Mobs sit on map and you can hatch them there. On Kill the drop a crafting orb. Hey, you can even sell us a stash tab... |

Please don't nerf every build next league, cause I'm pretty sure harvest being put in the perandus tier/ignore is gonna nerf every build already.

I just returned to Ritual League after being inactive for a few years.
The game is already so complicated now that I nearly didn't return (I can't imagine trying to figure out this game as a brand new player), but I was excited about all the new crafting options. Now this. Not good. |

ruining your game one step at a time

" When presented anti-thesis to their world view, "they" resort to personal attacks. The other guy was told the same since he played Maraudar and was assumed that his build was "item independent". Yeah you can keep crying on the forums and reddit but it probably won't change a thing. Similarly, I could have cried about baron helmet, geofry's santuary, shaper gloves getting nerfed a couple of league ago but I guess adults move on with their lives while kids keep on complaining about sheeeet. In the end its GGG's game and they are staying true to their original game philosophy. |

Alright
This will probably be my first and last take on this game. First of all, I'd like to address GGG Development team, Marketing team & Product analysis team - Including Chris as well. First of all kudos on having something as great as path of exile being continuously developed, maintained, and fixes being rushed one after the other. The game is streamlined, I won't deny that, but there's plenty of content for any new/prospect user, and the game doesn't really offer a good objective-oriented help guide that would introduce the said player to the content available in the game. So what do I mean by streamlined in this case? In short, it's appealing. Hack and slash, full screen clear, diversity of build option, be it revolving around an item, mechanic, skill, passive, and so on. A common pattern that I've seen on my previous league (Started in the cooldown period before blight) - is build targeting, the nerfs you throw usually target one or more specific way of building, while some people call it punishing (And my builds have been punished several times) it's necessary that you understand that these builds are popular due to their ability to clear end-game content. Who among your player base doesn't want to kick Sirus's ass, who doesn't love hearing Kirac scream (By the golden arse of Innocence) knowing that the end of the tutorial is neighed and their quest to dominate the content they love, the boss battles that require a mechanical understanding of the game is within their grasp - We all do (Yes, all here refers to me, you, and any sucker out there whether they like the manifesto or not). Bottom line is, you developed something great, that's loved by a lot of people around the globe. So I do advise you to listen to your community more, nothing frustrates a player base than the lack of communication you provided in this thread. The person who was talking about how (Thrilling it is to throw an exalted an orb at an item and see if you got what you want) - I have no remorse, but he obviously comes from a childish mentality and his position in the company needs to be revised, not attacking him personally but this kind of view clearly indicates a personal opinion and disconnect from reality. Want to verify it? throw a poll or two on whether the player bases loves throwing the entirety of their countless hours of grinding and sweat on the result of an exalted orb outcome. Under no circumstances was this ever the reason why one joined this game. We're here to kill shit - We let out and gain the thrill of fighting these bosses, doing that content, upgrading our gear. Not gambling the entirety of our time spent. Your game is absolutely great, it still lacks an auction house for better trading, a better guide for new players, and several other aspects. But the moment you start becoming delusional and listen to obviously disconnected people over those who's been supporting you - financially, emotionally, and took over the past 8 years with the several inconvenient adversaries and still support you - you lose. As to the player base, whether you hate me or not, whether this is on par with what you believe is right or wrong. Be gentle - (Not in a creepy way) But understand that usually black or white doesn't work (Keep harvest) or (Screw harvest and pound it to become a useless mechanic of the game) are usually aren't our two options. GGG should by now have a huge compass on this thread with over 440 pages of communication (Both negative or positive). Your choice to support those who do not support you back is on you. Whether they do go along with the clown-fiesta they intend to make out of harvest, or pause and listen to the many great ideas in this thread, should determine where your next $ is going to be spent. Be it onto supporting Path of Exile, or a different game with people who aren't living in a delusional fantasy of their own, I hope you understand this. Chris. In case you didn't make much sense of what I was trying to say. This development manifesto is a joke - As well as the reasoning behind it. Cheers. |
