Problems? Well, solar guards don't have any problems on bosses, so i can't tell when they start to "suffer" from it.
Their damage output on bosses is inferior though, so i guess started from guardians/shaper/elder/uber atziri etc you want burning spectres. Everything else except top-tier bosses will be melted by solar guards.
Solar guards likes spell echo/controlled destruction/elemental focus/minion damage/GMP(change in slower proj on fat bosses). Can use concentrated effect, cause both their attack are aoe (fireball/beam), also fire penetration if red slot, but that's inferior to other options.
Flesh offering also boosted cast speed, so it must boost rotation speed of TV's totems.
New shields are OP, yes. Also, amulets also have that new "#% block applied to spells" affix, so you can distribute those (block on amulet, mana on shield), because i think shield with both of them will be much more costly. And yeah, mana on block is sweet. Hate when i walk out of hellish damage pack with full life but no mana, want to change to that shield.
Why not? Zombies give additional survavibility and meat shield.

So you say a 5l vis mortis or cloak of defiance is better than a tabula, wich gems out of the 6 is the one i should not put on the 5link?

Whatever you can wear, animate guardian can wear too.
You just drop item on floor, point cursor on it, and use skill. Now animate guardan is made. You can drop another item and it will equip that too.
If you try to equip same slot for him, he will rewrite previous with new one.
Until it die, you can resummon him anytime.
If it dies - it dies together with all items, so you will need to buy everything again.

What would be best for the Animate to wear for defense? Should I go armor or evasion or energy shield? also I am guessing all you need on the armor is the defense and resistances right? you don't need increases minion damage or anything like that right?
Or is there armor that makes him even better?

Guardians and shaper also with ease with SG deathless.

There are 2 or more threads for solar guards only, so look this.

The only differences for Solar Guards are gem links, curses, and Animated Guardian setup. You can use exactly the same tree.
Gem links: Raise Spectre / GMP or SP / spell echo / controlled destruction / elemental focus / minion damage.
Curses: Despair doesn't do anything for SGs, so run Flammability or Elemental Weakness.
Animated Guardian: Again, burning damage doesn't help with SGs, so swap to something like: Leer Cast / Vicatrio's Flight / Zahn's Cassock / Dying Breath / rare gloves.

Not terrible, however, it takes both hand slots so you can't use a shield, losing a lot of defence. Works good for leveling though.

Actually, someone claimed that SG is absolutely garbage on bosses, but that's definitely not true. Even more than that, their damage is quite comparable with TV.
The problem is with slower projectiles their AI turns absolutely retarded and they mostly won't even shoot at boss if they don't stand right next to him. Also if boss don't stay still - they miss a lot.
But on bosses like kitava my SG's was actually better than TV.
It would be good to not using slower projectiles, and instead use something like controlled destruction/concentrated effect, but it's another coloring (can't play maps without GMP), so only applicable to tabula rasa, which is not good.
P.S. Ah, yeah. Also the point is, that SG benefit from blood offering, so we need to make desicions sometimes, but they still hit hard, even with bone offering.
P.P.S. Also, i find SG much more better for HC leagues than actual TV. Just because the best defense is attack.
I get it, bone offering is good, but when i go from SG to TV, i got killed several times just because they were being retarded and do whatever they want except engaging enemy. And i just standing there with bone offering and empty mana because everyone hit me.
SG killing things even before i get to them. Also, my jewels have taunt on them, so most things don't even try to hit me, and die before they even get to spectres.
It can be that i'm still low level, so i will post my final opinion after i got to shaper/guardians/elder, but i think i will stick to solar guards in the end.
Oh, and of course burning spectres immune to reflect maps, that's cool, but i can live without it.
Ah, right, almost forgot. I don't use AG yet. So yeah, boss killing will be much better, but that retarded mapping traumatized me so much, so that not gonna change my mind.
Targeting with SP should be mitigated to a certain degree by using Faster Projectiles instead. Admittedly, it's a much smaller boost, but if it improves the number of hits, it starts to get closer to equivalent.
