Temporal Chains
This curse is overpowered as hell in PVP. This needs work if you ask me.

I have a mechanics question regarding this skill. Lets say i hit an enemy with enough lightning damage to shock him for 200ms (i.e., the shock debuff is ignored). Now if that enemy is cursed with Temporal Chains, does that make the shock last 300ms and does the shock debuff get applied in that case?

TC slows down the flow of time; it does not increase the duration. You'll need to deal more Lightning damage in that scenario :)

it does increase the duration, via slowing time down =p
answer is still the same though. temporal chains increases what is already there and thus not decrease the amount of damage needed to do to trigger a status effect by principal of threshold value of 300ms vs %hp. if you dealt enough damage to cause that 300ms requirement, temporal chains will make it actually last 450ms. it does not make a 300ms requirement into a 150ms requirement. | |
Yes, if the target would never become shocked in the first place, Temporal Chains could never make a difference. However, im not sure that is how the devs explain it in the mechanics thread. Heres a shortened quote:
"If you land a critical strike with an attack or spell that deals lightning damage, the enemy becomes Shocked. (...) The duration of the chilled, frozen, and shocked statuses is related to the amount of cold/lightning damage dealt: Shocked: 276ms per 1% max life dealt as lightning (...) If the duration would be less that 300ms, it's ignored entirely (the effect is not applied)." So, step 1 is: target becomes shocked on crit. No buts or ifs in there until then. If the target would be considered debuffed at this point, Temporal Chains would apply, right? No, TC would not apply. The reason for that is that it doesn't increase the duration; it never applies to any duration.
When you are Cursed with Temporal Chains, the durations of Buffs and Debuffs is completely unchanged. However, it takes more time for that same duration to expire. Learning by example is the beeesst. You cast a random Buff that lasts 30 seconds. First ten seconds go by as usual, nothing going on. Then, some arsehole pops up and Curses you with TC, with a duration of ten seconds. Over the course of the next ten seconds, the duration on your Buff only decreases by 5 seconds; they tick away more slowly due to TC. TC expires, and the last 15 seconds pass by as usual. The duration of the Buff is never changed; it was always 30 seconds. Similarly, if you are Cursed and cast that same Buff, the duration is still 30 seconds. However, the first couple of seconds tick down slowly due to being Cursed. Back to the Shock example: there is never a timer that Temporal Chains can slow down, because Shock is never applied in the first place. I don't know, maybe I'm just misunderstanding Jojo. Wouldn't be the first time I completely miss the point :P
My post was referring to the following: " I took 'step 1' to mean, the first quoted line. At that point in the calculation, Temporal Chains does not apply. Viper, you´re right, by step 1 i meant that first line. What i still dont quite understand is, how are you so certain step 3 (the last line) is where TC comes into play? If the second line wouldnt be in there, and it, for example, would say: "if you deal less than 1% of target´s max hp, the effect isnt applied. Otherwise, the duration is 276ms/1%..." i wouldn´t still have doubts. But, the way it is explained in the quote, calculating the duration comes first, and whether or not the debuff is ignored depends only on its duration. If duration increases are not included when its first calculated, none of the passives would apply either (static blows etc) and the quality bonus for Added Lightning Damage (+1% shock duration, +0.5% chance shock on hit) would only make sense if you use it with a lightning spell. ign: ggtyfutoo

" There's a difference between stuff that increase the duration and Temporal chains. Temporal Chains doesn't increase the duration as Vipermagi explained already. It simply makes the effects last longer, but the duration is still the same. A 1sec debuff is still a 1sec debuff with Temp chain, it simply takes longer for it to wear off but it doesn't get extended in duration, it doesn't become 2secs, it stays 1sec. It's very simply to understand if you get cursed by Temp Chains and look at your debuffs/buffs. You'll see they still have the same duration, the numbers simply go down slower. |
