Frost Wall

Bug report
When shooting Explosive Arrow into Frost Wall it often crashes the game, and if the game doesnt crash the arrows disappears when they hit the wall.
All projectile attacks that can pierce can pierce the wall, that's the entire logic - that's why you're seeing "random" enemy skills passing through. The wall only stops projectiles that cannot pierce, which includes spell projectiles. Anything else will pass through.

It makes a lot of sense once you realize it's mechanics and it's a great kiting tool for melee mobs and pvp.

Hi guys, and hi GGG.
New player and forum member here.

I was really looking forward to using Frost Wall.

I went to look on Youtube, to see how wide it was,
and i thought it looked ok then.
What I did not notice at the time, was that it was an old, outdated video.

When I finally got the skill in act 3 on my witch,
I was SO disappointed, and realized that the skill has obviously been nerfed into the ground.

It is WAY too narrow now and it disappears all too quickly.

The duration seems to only become decent,
after you max an Increased Duration gem on it..

If only it would AT LEAST scale better, so the width would get decent after 5-7 levels?

But from what I see on this and other forums, it seems that people are having a hard time
even noticing any change in its width at all?

As I said, I was looking forward to Frost Wall,
and had included it as an important defensive skill in my build.
(Because i don´t use summons to take aggro)

But im definitely NOT going to use it, unless GGG does something about it.

Sad face..

Why not change this skill entirely? like, make it so we have to "draw" our wall out? that'd be so much more cooler. I would like to draw a circular wall around a pack of enemies or bosses like brutus.
^^

Please make it similar to BONE WALL in D2, where you were able to draw the wall you wanted. That would be super cool/badass, and then you could also create a special unique/gem which allowed for the wall to be created while walking (also like D2).
It already works like Bone Wall does. You might want to play some more Diablo II when you have time to spare :P
The recent duration buff is nice, although I still think it should scale better at low levels, it's much more usable while leveling now. It's still a bit odd to place; sometimes the wall forms in a line facing away from me, which is pretty useless. I can't figure out the circumstances that make it do this either, which makes it hard to control. The wall should be coded to always be perpindicular to the line of [player position to target location].

The quality bonus is not that great. The wall becomes as long as it needs to be already; in fact, a wall that's too long is actually a disadvantage. One of the uses I've found for the wall is to channel mobs into a predictable path, setting them up for a Storm Call or Mine cluster. If the wall is long enough to block all paths, the AI instead just walks away from it (I assume it's following some ridiculously long path around the back).

Instead of length I suggest replacing it with cast time; since the purpose of the wall is keep enemies away from you, being able to place it faster fits in with this. Another option for quality bonus is increased chill duration. This would help keep monsters at bay longer, which also fits better with the wall's function.

Lastly, Bug: Enemy projectiles occasionally pass through the gap between wall sections. These are normal, non-piercing projectiles. It happens most often when fired at an angle to the wall. Straight-on blocks them reliably.

Maybe i'm doing something horribly wrong, but frost wall doesn't seem to work like ... AT ALL. Projectiles i create just pass through the frost wall unobstructed.

My idea was to use frost wall with Explosive Arrow and let EA explode on the frost wall. There'd tons of benefits to this strategy, but doesn't matter as it's not working. Tested it also with Split Arrow, which also just passes through.

€: auto attacks with the basic attack does get blocked, though, which seems silly.

I guess for most builds it's an advantage that projectiles always pass, but neither does this seem intended nor does it make Frost Wall unique - it's just a worse decoy totem/summon for most builds that might have a use for it.
