[3.10] Sovyn's Lazy Pally - Tanky Templar with Max Block
" I've heard of someone using Double Strike, go for it. Really the only issue with attack skills is if they do enough splash/aoe to be useful, or if you have to link it to melee splash and use up a linked gem (or run without splash, but I'd rather watch paint dry than do that). I like Reave because it has built in aoe, so you effectively get an extra support gem instead of most other skills where you'd link melee splash to it. You can get one in two minutes: make a Shadow or Ranger and go kill Hillock, and you get it in town. Last edited by seiferoth10 on Sep 20, 2013, 5:51:54 PM

" You will have a much better chance of overcapping your elemental resistances with this build than with most other builds.
" I'd say use the mana leech gloves that you have, that will enable you to use a damage or defense oriented support gem on your attack skill instead of blood magic or mana leech support.
" Hi gfurm! Glad you are having a blast! Up to you, it's your character. I personally think Ondar's is important, that's why it's part of the build. I think since you are willing to put up with the tedium of keeping max endurance charges going though, it's a valid choice. Best wishes going forward into maps. :) Let us know what you think after having a bunch of maps under your belt.
" I'd use double strike if you don't care for heavy strike. :) It's a good second best skill. Glacial hammer is fine if you can get a mace over 250 DPS (good luck with that). :) Or, some users are happy with Infernal Blow or Reave (reave has the same problem as glacial hammer) -- just a matter of getting the DPS up with reasonable support choices and managing the mana draw. " Me! Me! :) Double Strike is good, although I have to agree with Sovyn it does not pack the punch of Heavy Strike. But I hate to run after monsters (plus you may pull an extra pack you are unprepared for if you run a dangerous map) so I opted for something safer with almost the same killing speed. Seif got it right in losing a link to melee splash though. Infernal Blow is something you should try out while you are levelling. I made do with IB while levelling as I did not have multistrike yet and had to make up for the lack of dps. Mana issue abound though. I will definitely swap back to IB once I manage to get my hands on a Soul Taker. The only thing I may piss my pants on is elemental reflect, but that kinda gambling is pretty fun too. :)
My Glacial Hammer Templar
Character:
Spoiler
Passive skill points: Equipment:
Spoiler
HP 2915 ES 727 61% block Evade 468 (8%) Armor 4672 (34%) Max elemental resist -42% chaos resist (ouch) Could be much better but mostly self-found. I love Glacial hammer. Hence, the use of Amplify, Catalyst and all those nice mace-related skills. Such a versatile skill: AoE with melee splash (dps 6378). Single target with Added fire replacing melee splash (dps 9296 with 1972-3645 cold damage per hit - freeze/stun). Can't wait to have my 6L armor for more possibilities. A tankie (shield+ES) hard hitting but slowish (mace) leadership-type (auras) with some magical capabilities (curse, totem, trap) character that is competitive in PvE as well as PvP (play only one character). Does not mean I will use all these skills, just equipped that way to be responsive in PvP match. In summary. I believe Templars should take advantage of str (melee/life) and int (curse/es/mana/aura) nodes/keystones. So can not justify investing so many skill points on dex when my Templar ought to be a Str/int hybrid. But good to know of other inventive and successful built. " I have not found the knockback to be a major issue, but I could see where it could be. I just try to 'aim' the monster toward a cleared area or a wall. I used Infernal Blow while leveling up myself. It would be a fun skill with bringer of rain (for damage supports) and a leveled up mana leech support perhaps. Much, much cheaper than a soul taker. :)
" Hi Gyver! Thanks for sharing your build. Always good to have different perspectives. I like what you did with skins, your character looks great. I think your character would be perfect for you if it had max block and some more spell block. Maybe in the future, eh? I guess you have enough mana regen going to continuously chain your attack skill? It's possible you might run into some trouble without the high evasion/Ondar's that prevents my build from taking damage in maps with chaos projectile attacks. But it looks like you have a chaos resist flask to help with that. Best wishes out there. Last edited by Sovyn on Sep 21, 2013, 4:19:51 PM

Hi guys, reporting in! Although my templar has not seen much action lately, I started a melee ranger to play with some friends and decided to give it the Lazy Pally treatment - armour, block, health..The main difference here is that I got IR. Don't miss evesion for now. In terms of survivability it does a great job, with endurance charges dmg reduction goes up to 88%. I might stretch out to EB to run a few more auras or to support arctic armour. The current line-up is Grace, Determination, Hatred, Tempest shield. Also use heavy strike linked with multistrike (finally got it!).
