[3.10] Sovyn's Lazy Pally - Tanky Templar with Max Block

Hi guys, reporting in! Although my templar has not seen much action lately, I started a melee ranger to play with some friends and decided to give it the Lazy Pally treatment - armour, block, health..

Thanks for sharing! Yes, the build can be made as just about any class. I'm not sure if it can be optimized the same way the templar can (lot of work to compare all options), but probably pretty close. :)

I would not call it a lazy pally if you are using charges. :D

Maybe with the new Endurance Charge on Melee Stun support gem, but we don't have our grubby little hands on those yet. :)

Remember, lazy = all passive stuff. Pushing buttons constantly = not lazy!

Double Strike is good, although I have to agree with Sovyn it does not pack the punch of Heavy Strike. But I hate to run after monsters (plus you may pull an extra pack you are unprepared for if you run a dangerous map) so I opted for something safer with almost the same killing speed. Seif got it right in losing a link to melee splash though.

Infernal Blow is something you should try out while you are levelling.

I have not found the knockback to be a major issue, but I could see where it could be. I just try to 'aim' the monster toward a cleared area or a wall.

I used Infernal Blow while leveling up myself. It would be a fun skill with bringer of rain (for damage supports) and a leveled up mana leech support perhaps. Much, much cheaper than a soul taker. :)

When I used to run HS + multi I tend to do that. There may be a slight inefficiency there though. If your monster is not backed to a wall yet, and there are no groups around you (aka 1v1, especially bosses), you will have 2 wasted hits swinging in the air. Not THAT bad as HS is cheap even with the support bumping up mana consumption. However for efficiency sake, I would rather all my hits connect (main reason why we got that 100% hit skill anyway).

But... as we always say in this thread, whatever feels comfortable to you. :)
I am level 73 now - havent had any gear upgrade in a while now, but that is okay - 5L chest, and 4L helmet/gloves/boots are keeping me in good stead. my resists are over capped so I am looking to replace some of my accesories over time, preferably with IIR/Q stuff.

In terms of loot - my Item Rarity/Quantity is something like 9%, 12% or somesuch tiny number - this clearly shows in the loot I get too. (I lag out a lot in parties, so I mostly solo.)

How do you folks handle this? Do you mix/match stuff up to get Item Rarity to a decent level (100%? more?) or do what it looks like everyone else seems to be doing - create a character and level it up and use it exclusively to farm (sporker or somesuch). I wont be doing that though because I am generally a one-char player (and doing the same content 3 times was painful enough - atleast for me - in normal/crual/merciless - for this one char, and I dont see myself doing it for a few more).

That - and I really dont see the fun in playing a char you dont enjoy just for it's farming advantages.

Guess I am stuck with lowball loot etc - which is fine as it is my gameplay choice afterall - but thought would check with others who may be like me (mostly one-char people).

Grats on 73!

Even self found with little or no IIR/IIQ I found a few decent IIR items:

These two are good enough to actually use....

Another thing you can try is using a semi ranged attack skill like ground slam or lightning strike and riding your shift key a lot. As long as your resists, block/spellblock and evasion are solid you could sacrifice life and armour to gain IIR/IIQ for farming with your lazy pally. So you would need a resists/evasion/IIR/IIQ suit just for farming, along with a leveled up ranged attack and associated supports (maybe to make the range larger, for example). I would not try this on hardcore, but it will work fine on standard, especially in areas where the monsters are on the slower moving side.

If you kill fast enough with your current 5L, try switch 2 of the gems for IIR/IIQ gems. But if you dont party, you dont get any loot. The +50% IIQ for each member in a party is silly good compaired to soloing. And if you are soloing, you should focus on IIQ. IIQ helps you find maps and orbs, while IIR increases the chance you find uniques.
when my witch died in hc i did switch to all MF gear on her, damned it dropped tons of blues, but never maps or orbs. i did run lowlife so had around 400in IIR, so did start search around. the answer on the net was to focus on IIQ if you dont party. And if you party, only the one that kills the mob needs to have IIR/IIQ.

So did play around a bit with culling strike+spectre+IIQ+IIR gem, but didnt notice any difference, still just tons of blue...if i had noticed a huge difference i would say test have a finish aoe skill with culling stike+ii+iiq...

and, leveling is the only fun thing in PoE, at level 62 in hc again :) sincei dont party much either...
Oh forgot, when you are starting to run maps, make thim have high +item quantity, chisel+alch them and have fun dying :) yeah iam bitter since i always die before i get the great loot....
Thanks Sovyn - I have that gloves in the stash, threw some currency at it to get 4S and 3L!

I am currently using this:

That glove 3L is this one:
.

I will play around with it - what I try to do is to have max resists (except Chaos where I am still in -20% or so :-() with gear, so I dont need to run purity. Guess I will run purity, and replace more of the resists focussed jewellery items with IIR/Q and check.

I use the following accesories - I am over the 75% cap in all 3 resists so might see if I can swap out one or more of these for some magic find and dmg stuff.

Thanks again :)

Hierokliff - thanks, will try those out. My attack is based on my 5L chest, and solo I kill stuff fast enough (unless I get jumped on by half a dozen of those cold-dogs and surprised). I have an IIQ gem in stash I think (I packrat random stuff, and vendor stuff I should be selling/saving I think heh), oh regarding maps, my ingame friends take me on map runs - I seem to have an insane skill to manage to die to the last tough boss/bosses 10 seconds ebfoe they die (and so miss on any fun loot lol) -

I was in a party once where the guy with Culling Strike had high IIR/Q and I got like 3 uniques, and enough rares to fill up inventory before even 1/2 way through the map:). He was a great guy and didnt mind, but I wasnt keen on lagging behind the whole party just picking up loot, so thanked and left after that map (and of course I managed to die to boss - and even he was amazed since the boss died FAST - and I died faster because I was lagging due to my crap laptop)

Survivability comes first. However, I think if one has reached all of my recommended levels on things (3k life, 35% avoidance, 35% mitigation, max ele resists, max block, some spell block, one can definately play with other gear options. The IIQ support gem is a good suggestion if one can do enough DPS. With a 5 link, sure, with a nice 250+ DPS weapon. With BoR, easy.
true, I died due to graphics lag resulting in me thinking I am elsewhere while getting beat down by boss :)

I swapped around a bit and now at 110% IIR and 20% or so IIQ with still max resists etc)

unfortunately the swapping made me lost some INT so cant use the blue aura / tempest shield (no biggie though) :)
Operation Craft your own Chest is in progress:

ilvl 76, found with 6s. Took ~80 fuse with 20% qual each to 6L. I just alch/chaosed 5 times to get that current roll, gonna save up some moolah to do it properly.
