GET RID DEATH PENALTY

Losses are a necessity, without it games/sports become quickly boring.

" Death penalties are absolutely not necessary. They aren't even a "loss". Its just the game stealing away my exp that I already earned. Thats ridiculous. And no, the game wouldn't become boring for everyone, most people would forget exp loss even existed after like a week. And most people would disable exp loss if it was a toggle. This proves that its just bad game design. |

Have you tried not dying to avoid penalty concerns? :p (I'm guessing HC players already do)

Totally agree, GGG needs to get rid of the 10% experience penalty because it's clearly not accomplishing the intended goal.
Instead, dying needs to completely reset all progress to the next level. Maybe players will actually be incentivized to learn from their mistakes if every single level has to be earned deathless. Also the death penalty should start at level 2. |

10% death penalty is not enough to encourage players to not dying. I propose 50% exp death penalty.

" I'm saying dying shouldn't matter :p There's no contest or leaderboard for most player deaths, and it isn't something the game (afaik) encourages you to do as a mechanic. You just... don't die! You aren't supposed to die, so any penalty as a result of death is fair-game (obviously bad irl, but games using the term should take it somewhat seriously :p); some go as far as one-life hardcore, others deal with a XP loss. The purpose of a death penalty is that you have a reason to build defenses. Your build shouldn't just be about damage. The defenses you list are good when starting out maps, but later in the game you really want a lot more.

" You have to build defense either way because we are limited by portals. You can't infinitely die. You would not be able to clear anything like that. My proposal to death penalty was to keep the -10% but up until the maximum xp you ever been on a given level you get an xp boost. (example: you are 50% you die down to 40% but until 50% you get double xp). Once you reach that the boost is gone and you continue normally. This would help you recover back to where you already were once. This solution would not help builds that don't build defenses because they would keep dying anyway. They would be stuck on 0% xp if they keep dying so the xp boost would not have any effect on them. This would only help occasional rare deaths that unnecessarily deletes hours of gameplay.
