Shaders/DirectX12 huge FPS drop.

also want to add that the performance in t17s is significantly better than everywhere else for whatever reason

I decided to test other driver versions since GGG doesn't want to do anything.
566.36 576.28 No change, but the RAM isn't filling up as quickly and the game seems more stable. This just means the bug appears after 20-25 minutes, not 5-10. Could it be a memory leak? The problem is definitely on GGG's end. And I've never seen the RAM usage decrease. Last edited by Deonix_#0855 on Nov 16, 2025, 1:12:38 AM

Several people with different pc´s specs has the problem
Normal Performance without the issue ![]() After gamebreaking bug ![]() here is a big disscusion abouth that: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3872620/page/4#p26437139 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz RAM 16,0 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (2 GB) lowest settings, v-sync off, dx12, windowed fullscreen, 1080p ITS NOT ONLY A PROBELM WITH OLDER HARDWARE, there are people with rtx 3050 having the same problem My oppinion, for some reason game stop using the GPU... Leaguemechanic trigger this always on my pc. sometimes opening the inventory, skill tree, league tree or switching to windows and back trigger this. the issue for most people is mainly the shader, if you look at the shader bar while mapping it is almost constantly full, theres some type of leak or something making it so your pc is perpetually redownloading shaders and that heavily affects performance, even if you're on a higher end pc
|

" of course... and where are shader executed?? ..on the gpu! |

" Yep, my specs are almost exactly the same as yours, except I'm on a gtx 1050ti instead. While updating to the newest driver did reduce my loading times a bit, they're still kinda long sometimes. And shader still takes 1-2 full minutes to load in every map(suspicously though, in unique maps and any map WITHOUT the new breach mechanics, Shader bar goes empty and loads MUCH faster just like how it was pre-3.27 so the culprit here may be the new fancy breach graphics having bricked shaders), even maps I have done hundreds of times with mechanics that I should have already compiled the shaders for. My shader cache was 10 GB in Nivida folder in appdata, and 780 MB in the Path of Exile folder there. The game just keeps re-loading shaders and it takes forever, this didn't happen before this 3.27 patch. There is definitely something wrong with the shaders in the game, but seems like GGG just wants to pretend this problem doesn't exist and ignore it while hoping people just spend thousands of $ on streamer PCs to ignore how non-existant the optimization is in this game. Its pretty sad ngl. Last edited by Toforto#2372 on Nov 16, 2025, 11:12:17 AM

Same issue with DX12. Same symptoms too: drive graph value going to abnormal 400-500 MB/s for seemingly nothing, the models never become full no matter how long I wait, HORRIBLE performance as is and even worse when any sort of menu is open, especially fullscreen one like The Atlas. Hard to tell what's going on with everything being blurry and having less polygons than a PS1 game, even if performance was alright.
Not fixable by deleting the cache and its size is 100GB already. Changing in-game or driver settings to all manner of configurations didn't help at all. Same to numerous other things I tried from obvious to most esoteric ones I could find in regards to PoE. i5-4590 GTX 960 2GB 16GB DDR3 Win 10 latest, latest graphics drivers (tried downgrading to version 551 and that also didn't help) Never had this kind of an issue with PoE before and literally played a day before 3.27 went live (and the whole 3.26 for that matter), with no changes made in my system to affect this. It happens most frequently with new Breach stuff around - opening The Genesis Tree, during the hive assault and in particular fighting the hive bosses fight, it always becomes low poly/texture after the shield guy stops circling around while maiming you. Still, might break anywhere really and the only solution is to re-enter the area (helps only sometimes) or restart the client, which may last 10 minutes to an hour and then break again. |

" Yeeah a shader cache being 100 GB in size is not normal for any game, something weird is happening with the shaders. Imo the game keeps re-compiling them every time you enter any zone, instead of loading the old ones it has already created. My shader folder reached a 10 GB size because that was the limit I set in Nvidia Control Panel. Game ran just fine pre-3.27 for me aswell, shaders are completely bricked this patch. Before launching PoE this league my shader cache size was only 6 GB for all games I had played the past month combined. That's a normal size. Either they will have to fix this now, or later when inevitably PoE 1 or 2 breaks so hard that it becomes unplayable on any PC. Let's see if they wait for it to get that bad, would just be harder to fix later on. Its just so sad how devs completely ignore optimization. The game's shaders are clearly completely cooked atm. |

Same problem on my side.
Shaders are always compiling even after doing the map 100x times, CPU peak to 300ms doing heavy map, 50ms doing normal ones (too high.) GTX 1660 Ryzen 5 5600G 16GB Ram |
