Annual reminder that XP loss on death is bad design.

Just here to remind them this league as well. Basically sucks dying on 98/99 to stuffs like server lag and what not. I would like to remind them that xp loss is basically a backwards progress. Nobody plays games to progress backwards. I do believe dying has to be punished and it needs to have a presence but not in form of xp loss. Or at least let us recover the xp quickly.

I have several lv 100 grinded on maps myself so I know the struggle and it still sucks. I build as tanky as possible or as the build allows. Maybe it is time to fix it. If you want to lose progress play Hardcore. That is where it matters. Well even Hardcore is not really hardcore since it is not voided. People just sell their gear and trade the currency back to hardcore so they recoup the loss.

It is like extraction shooters. People love playing shooters but they don't want to lose their gear so they just play other shooters where dying is allowed. Some people love extaction shooters for the exact resaon and some don't.

I have many ideas how to fix death penalty or how to change it to still have an impact but not remove the desire to play the game.

I can't even recommend using amelioration omens, because of how expensive they are plus how the game is balanced so that simple mistakes and scenarios completely out of your control (ex. lag) will 1shot you, you will wind up shelling out way too much currency for it to be worth it.

These omens should be a lot more commonplace like they are in PoE2.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

I don't want bandaids like omen for example. I want system update. If you go back and you kill the monsters that killed you you get some percentages of the xp back. Or if you die on 40% xp down to 20% then the game gives you like 200% xp increase up until 40% so you catch up where you were quickly. It would always snapshot your highest xp on every level and grants you the xp boost up until that point. Things like these.

I don't want to mention repair for gold because gold drop is already pretty bad and adding extra cost is not something I would want. Plus it would intoduce a whole lot of problems like for starters gold would need to be tradable in order for repair to work which is a bad idea. I like that gold is not tradable.

All that exp loss does is teach players to avoid all risk and play in safe content until they level up, and theeen take risks and do the things they actually wanna do. I lived in Sanctum for a day just to hit 98 because I really wanted an extra Mastery on my passive tree, if exp loss didn't exist I would have just done chill alch&go maps until I naturally level up. That's how most games work lmao

The omen is a bandaid fix and wayyy too expensive, I'm not wasting my chaos on that. Removing exp loss on certain pinnacles and maven invitations is a good start, that at least got rid of the dumb emergent gameplay of "oh I just got a boss invitation, oh but wait I'm at 80% exp better not do it till I level up"

All exp loss does is teach people to do boring, safe content until they level up, or it makes 5-way legion rota farmers rich lmfao
I strongly disagree. Without exp loss what would be hard about getting level 100?

Why not give all players level 100 achievement from start? And why not give them the challenge rewards whilst at it...
There is nothing hard about level 100 with boosts available. Most of the lv 100 are actually 5 way boosted people.

Have you ever leveled to 100 by yourself? If not I don't think you have a say in this. I have several lv100 character leveled by hand I know what I'm saying.

I don't recommend using them because it won't trigger sometimes. It was reported many times, still not fixed.
