Why do you even play Path of Exile nowadays?

After not playing / browsing PoE at all for 3 months and being basically out of the game for almost half a year aside from forum, I gotta say that the game looks boring and meaningless as fuck compared to a year ago. It's like Runescape 3 vs Oldschool Runescape already.

> All past goals are trivial and power creep is insane - lv37 uElder / lv 100 in 4 hours / HH is common etc.

> Things "sound" special & unique but in practice are boring as shit

> What a clusterfuck! You can barely understand what's on the screen

> GGG getting cockier with pushing lootboxes & monetization

> 100% bonkers retarded balance & clueless design choices

> League content meaningless yet again

> BOTS crazier than ever 1:190 EX l0l

> Inventory & stash management / hideout / trading has been doubled the last 2 leagues alone. SO MUCH SHIT EVERYWHERE.

> League and items / mechanics have been made confusing to a level where it's unfun

> 0 Social factor aside from "wtb ur kaom 300 chaos offer 10c"

> Just pull the slot machine without an actual reward aside from hearing your funny meme alert sound once an hour


What's good in PoE nowadays or why do you even play? What's the reward? Or is it addiction? Nothing better to do? No other games? Is the game challenging and if it is, how?

Legitimately curious.

I think we play PoE for the same reason anyone plays any game.

FOR FUN.

The game is challenging, because I limit myself. I usually make not-so-META builds, usually melee, and play more or less self found. I do trade a little bit, but I only sell (usually) - and use the currency I own to craft my own gear.

I never rush anything, and often stop and "smell the roses". I aim for fun, not achievement. I do what I want to do, not what GGG/Elites/The META tells me to do.

I understand completely that the game can be boring for those seeking the path of least resistance, making the META/Environment dictate their choices in terms of strategies, builds, gear, goals and so on. I also understand that a lot of people view that as "fun". For me, the basis of an RPG is always to make my own adventure, and don't give a rats ass what everyone else does, or what's the most "efficient" way to play.

Meaningless? When does a video game give meaning a side from entertainment? No challenges? For you maybe. There are tons of players struggling to beat act 10. Not unique? YOU don't find them unique, others do. League content meaningless? What previous league content gave meaning? 0 sicial factor? People wanting to socialize, do socialize. No "actual" reward? What's an "actual" reward?

You seem burnt out. It's OK. It's also OK to have "outgrown" the game. You've been playing for years, know everything, mastered everything. Of course everything will seem trivial to you.

I play because its fun - lots of factors add up to that, content, friends, etc. When that stops I will move on as I have with other games.

After a few leagues its harder to find that feeling you got when you were a noob and fresh in a game. This is true for most games I would say.

I ussualy play 1 to 2 game at a time.
I did wow for until and including wotlk.
Diablo 2 lod.
Diablo 3 and then switched to poe when that turned out to be shit.
When i started playing poe i enjoyed playing and did it becouse i realy like and enjoyed the game.
Now i just play to pass a little bit of time and i dont take the game seriously at all.
Dont get me wrong i still play the game for many hours but i put no effort into it. Its not that good of a game anymore in my opinion.
Almost every change ggg has made after bloodlines league i dislike.
I didnt like the lab and the traps idea.
I didnt and dont like the atlas.
I liked breach league, i had some fun with it.
I dont like sandokan league.
But i think delve was ok if its polished a bit. It still needs some tweeks.
I guess i am playing poe becouse there no beter option atm. But as soon as any game catches my atention ill probably be gone.
I dont think i like poe anymore, to much rng i think, not saying there has to be no rng. Every build i play feels the same ultimetly. And i dont feel rewarded for the time i invest into the game some times i feel. I dont know how many hours i have put into sandokan league and i had a single exalt droo and thats ir rofl.

I think you've just played for too long and like myself done everything there is to do. After awhile you just move on to other things. Im not playing the next league at all because I already know the next one is most likely going to be the same stuff.

I find the game fun still and find many different ways to entertain myself because after all it is just a game. I get annoyed at the choices GGG makes and theres many things I believe they can do to make the game even better but I wont bother going into any of that because they have their reasons to what they do (even though sometimes I think they have there eyes and ears covered sometimes.)

At the end of it all I find myself more annoyed with the community and trading overall. Its hard to explain but haggling is out of the window and many people think everyone is out to scam them or get them. The community is so paranoid if they're being "efficient" that they forget to just have fun. If someone isnt getting what the guy on reddit posted then we gotta make sure to bash that person for being a no lifer or a cheater. I dont know, if GGG doesn't ruin the game the community will.

I played Diablo 2 for 12ish years when there were no major content updates for more than the latter half of that time (chaos tristram was introduced in 2005). If an ARPG is fun and keeps having ladder resets that's enough for me lol.

Powercreep is real but I trust that they're interested in continuing to upgrade endgame in the future.

What's good in PoE nowadays or why do you even play? After checking the new league mechanic, it only takes me a few minutes to decide how often I'll play. If it's bad I'll play meta and try to reach the 1st achievement/reward or will not care at all.

What's the reward? "fun" when everything works out for me?

Nothing better to do? No other games? I picked up Warframe and loved it. Less stressful compared to World of Tanks. But collecting tanks and Space Ninja frames is more worth it than the trash you get from this game. New leagues, new trash and old ones to throw into the dumpster we call Standard.

Is the game challenging and if it is, how? Trying to keep up and beat this game is way past me now. It is so RNG based, my dexterity and patience gave up a long time ago. PoE is like a crossword puzzle that I can pick up anytime now.
