[3.6] The Blizz Sorc - Icestorm/Winter Orb CI Occultist - Viable For Everything

Sucks about all the nerfs, but it will be interesting to see how this build adapts.

I'm taking a break from leagues for a while but I'll follow this thread to see what has to change with this build so I can still have a little fun in Standard now and then.

I knew ES was going to get nerfed. I just gave last league's Occultist the armour from the previous one and my ES jumped from 15k to over 16....and INT went up to about 2430. I'll have to take some screenshots before the nerf stick strikes.

I put decent (but not great) pre-delve gear on my 3.4 Scion and get 13.5k ES, 2456 int, tho this is with a good Eye.

So ~15k and 2500 int should be possible at the top end with Scion. Presumably better ES and lower int (16k/2400?) are doable in occultist still, with lower damage but higher clearspeed.

Will see how the changes affect the build. As i read it now it will be nerfed havy.
Let see what the patch notes say about the real numbers.

And for me the biggest adantage of the build will nerfed to the ground. the survabilty.

Till now i can tank nearly all contend. now with leech and es changes it will be much harder.

will see how kelvyn s sight of the build will be. But perhaps after 6 leagues with this amazin build i need to try something other :-(

Ah yes, I didn't think about leech being worse than Delve & earlier. Hard to see this being a dead build though, we should still have better survivability & clearspeed than pre-delve, but lower boss DPS.

Come to think of it, the flask from before fixes our ES recharge problems caused by the ascendancy change, so we might be better off, at the expense of QoL.

I'd also prefer to play an off-meta build, so I'll probably give this a go again anyway.

I doubt this build will be hit too much, especially when talking about ES changes. The ES is mostly scaled by high int anyway, and flat es being added might actually mean it might be a buff. We'll see after patch notes hit. Other new mechanics introduced in the league might also boost the build.

Also interesting thing to try instead of winter orb (if it's bad, which is likely) would be to use cyclone instead lol. Would largely solve biggest issue with the build which is bad clear if u could move while channeling.

The issues with cyclone are (a) the ice storm will drop where you are, so you might as well be a melee character (b) it's not clear the icestorm will do enough damage if you keep moving, so it doesn't get a chance to stack (c) the cyclone will get no support gems.

We'll still use Winter Orb in this league, because cold is so useful for defense and we can play just fine with a Winter Orb that just triggers ice storms.

The real question in my mind is, will scion go back to being worthwhile again given its potentially higher ES and int?

What nerfs, other than a bit to ES?

Let's wait to see what the new passive tree actually looks like first.

And we have no idea what the Legion special jewels will do to our keystones/passives.

i've manage to quickly apply occultists nerfs in path of building (as extra mods on astramendis) my char lost 1509 ES (7843 ES from 9352 ES) for me not a big deal, iv managed to kill uber elder with worst gear and around 8.5k ES
