This class is no longer good for spell caster builds. Pain Reaver was nerfed and only works with attacks in 3.2. We are currently only discussing which other class to use.

Well that's a huge loss. Why... maybe it just didn't make sense for a magezerker to heal from spells, hahah.

POE In Content Update 3.2.0, the Herald of Ash Skill Gem will work on spells.

Could we use it ?

Oh hello there, Herald of Ash!

Suddenly, Elementalist 3.2 no longer feels less powerful than Berserker 3.1...
Or occulist whispering ice for massive ES? Elementalist is ok, and atleast has leech. I play a whispering ice char atleast one each league, curious what will be best this league.

hi Kelvyn, i'm in favor of Elementalist too, but what do you think of Scion with Ele/Slayer (with Slayer starting point for VP) ?

Hi Kelvynn. Now that the Scion Ascendant revamp is out and the elementalist part seems decent, do you think a mix of the classes may work better than Zerker?

Well... the answer to this question has suddenly changed with the new buff to Herald of Ash!

Scion gets 40% increased effect of Heralds, which is better than Elementalist's 25%. I don't know how this happened, usually Scion got only half-baked powers from the parent classes.

So the 12% MORE fire damage becomes 17% MORE for the Scion. Now we are talking! And we should always remember that Scion gets extra Int and skill points too.

I see two good options for the Scion: Ele-Inq (offensive) and Ele-Jug (defensive). Going to look into both and compare to the Elementalist.

ETA: add Ele-Slayer to the list of contenders. Leech not stopping for a good minute... Yummy!

I'd love to start the new league with WI and CI, like back in the days!
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ sending energy for the rework :)

After some quick math, it comes down to this:

Elementalist:
+110% increased damage on average (this includes Pendulum swings)
+15% penetration
+0.5% leech
-8% reduced elemental damage taken (against multiple hits)
reduced mana reservation for Herald of Ash

Scion EleSlayer:
+80 BASE Int (+106 Int total with WI and belt; MAY be worth using Perandus Signet again for even more)
+2 skill points
*27% MORE damage (this includes Culling)
+perma leech

Well... it looks like we have a new winner! 80 base Int + 2 points are easily better than 110% inc dmg. 0.5% leech won't matter, both classes will have to use Life Leech anyway, but perma-leech is awesome. 27% MORE damage is definitely better than extra 15% penetration, there is already a lot of penetration. Small defensive bonus against repeated elemental hits and probably 1 less skill point to reduce mana reservation to incorporate Herald of Ash without losing AA and Purities, or not having to spend 1 socked on Enlighten - that's what Elementalist has on the Scion. But the Scion stuff looks more interesting!

Tested the EleSlayer in Standard on my old lv 91 Scion with the Abyss league Berserker's gear. It doesn't even have the new 3.2 buffs yet, but it already looks promising. The damage is slightly lacking without the 3.2 buffs, but it's good enough to kill everything. And I have 9400 ES at lv 91 with the same gear that gave the Berserker 8700 ES at lv 95. Not too shabby :)

Now just need to wait for the official patch notes. So many changes in the last few days, I won't be surprised if GGG has more important stuff coming that may affect this build.
