Thats wat I thought too! This gem can be awesome for us, but need to think wisely how it gonna be used for us (not totally guaranteed that we'll use it but definately gonna try something with it once its in the game).

too soon to speculate, lets just wait till its in the game and I'll keep you posted about how it interracts with our build.

However, I do have some theories of wat we gonna do :-) Lets wait and see

Hey mate, its all about survival and you have different variation of how to survive. It's really up to you, I can't tell which one is the best but they are all quite the same [although CI is best for HC].

If you already have high life gear and decent amount of hp pool, no reason to change now.

The gem.setup I can up with was

Blasphemy - assmark - warlords - enlighten/reduced mana (if those work) and then light warp - less duration.

It would mean that a 6L carcass wouldn't be the best, you can do just as well with a 4+2 link chest which is waaay more common than a 6L, cheaper too.

I'm really hoping we can make it work as it will make the build stronger and cheaper.

Edit: Just tested EB and ZO, it doesn't work :(

Edit 2: Ignore me, just realised I don't have any life regen. Gonna test on a spare char now due to no respec points.

Ice nova has always been one of my favorite spells so, i was tempted to try the build for Darkshrine. So far i'm 68 with a 4L Pledge and some random gear, still in the process of tuning it to be somewhat decent.

However, i find the survivability is low enough to worry about right now. I'm running with ice nova, conc. effect, cold to fire and life leech on the staff, but it's not enough with blue/yellow mobs as the dps is still quite low (gems aren't maxed of course as i'm leveling them with the character), around 9K.

The most noticeables issues so far:

-cursing isn't reliable enough with my current setup, the aoe on LW is awful (no carcass jack yet) and too many mobs are curse immune (let alone map mods). I ended up with a warlord mark on cwdt and assassin mark on LW, having only one curse for now, it helps a bit as it's switching to leech more when i'm getting hit. I just can't imagine dropping the Life leech gem on nova so far.

-stuns destroy me, if i don't freeze the mobs enough, they stun me, i freeze even less, and it's a loop until i die or manage to warp out of the pack with 20% hp left and out of flasks. It's especially obvious against golems or other tough mobs, or some affixes. I have 3200 hp but it still doesn't seem like much

-bosses are usually painful, so i keep a 4L flame surge to help with that, but on some bosses it's really rough (anything with some CC will bring a lot of trouble)

Anyway, i really like the whole "warp in the middle and aoe everything" playstyle, problem is that it sometimes doesn't work, and that "sometimes" is too often to be reliable at that point. So i'm wondering, is it just a matter of getting more gear/dps ?

I'm hesitating a bit too invest more into the character as i'm not sure how it's going to work. No matter how much i improve the gear, it will still be a ~4K hp melee mage relying on random mechanics (freeze/curses) to survive on anything it can't one shot, and i'm a bit out of ideas on how it can work that well later on for lvl 80-90 with average gear.

So, how is the playstyle going to be ? I'm sure it's awesome at lvl 100 with the best items but, i'm just wondering how it goes before that, and if it can remain true to the core gameplay of the build (warp in and kill stuff) or if it will just be a kiting fest for any serious boss ?

How to survive when mobs can't be frozen, cursed and hit too hard overall ?

I hope this doesn't sound too negative, i'm enjoying the build so far, it just feels like i'm dieing a bit too much to really feel like it has any future in a 1 month event and with a rather low budget (5L at best some day).

Hi mate.
Survivability overall for most witches builds is somewhat an hard-to-solve issue, and yet we have great survivability.
I'll try to answer by your notes:

1. bring the dual curses to LW again bro, no reason to do wat u did. you don't have one of the core items (carcass jack) so u aren't in the optimal terms to play as great as u wished you would but still it should work just fine. You might wanna warp more frequently to increase the amount of cursed mobs. since Vaal Pact is leeching life based on ur dps, maybe you have too low dps at the moment?

2) Stuns are issue for most squishy builds unless you quickly eliminate them. once you face the stunners [which aren't mnay] just take it easy with them, warp near them and not inside them.

3) then again - damage issue maybe? show me your gear, passive tree and tell me your fully charged dps.

I moved the dual curse back to LW to see how it will go, also switched a few points around.

Dps is definitely an issue, i'm at 9,4K (lvl 69) fully charged. My gear is a mix of good stuff and trash (leveling on a new league) and i'm in the process of upgrading it when i see some good offer on poe trade.



The reasoning so far was:

-i only very recently got assassin's mark linked to LW through the 5L so, i still need to get the power charges on the tree, i couldn't generate them through leveling so they were not really a priority

-same for ice bite, i only got the pledge of hands yesterday so now i should have enough mana to link it, i'll have to try that

-i used that helm before getting the staff, i'll switch it to a rare as soon as i find one with the good base to get the colors i need, meanwhile the 30% cold helps a bit the dps

So i end up with that passive tree:



I went to the jewel on the left instead of the power charge route, this helped me a lot while leveling as i could socket the 10% elem/3 regen mana unique from the quest, i'll switch the points around in the next levels.

That said, i'm not used to play caster builds, so i guess i just have to get used to being more evasive with the warp. I'm just wondering at what point can the leech keep up with incoming damage enough to go through affixes and random hurdles, what's a good dps goal to have a smooth ride ?

As for the gear, Carcass won't happen anytime soon, i have one on Standard so it's not a priority to get another one in Darkshrine as it's expensive, unless i get a lucky drop worth the cost. I'll probably 5L the staff first, while trying to get some decent jewelry.

Axylxys, your main concerns about your current gear (besides carcass jack) should be:

-high life helm
-amulet with crit chance and/or crit multi (+spell / cold damage if possible, mana regen also an option although its not really needed for the build).
-2x diamond rings with high life (optional: +cast speed).

your dps is low, and its not just because of your gear.

Your passive tree is both not accurate to the build and not like I suggested (There is a leveling guide section regarding passive tree which you should've followed to maximize your dps at your level).
The jewel you mentioned isn't as important to you as you think it is ;P
going for the +1 power charge and spell power per power charge right above the beginning of the witch tree is by far more important.

Have a look at the suggested tree for ~level 60, you got some changes to do that will enhance your dps, which will directly boost your life leech.

The 'official' and ultimate survivability for us is when you change to Phase #2 of passive tree and Atziri's step for great evasion rating and block.

Its all about progression, keep going you're in the right way, patience :)
