GGGs reasoning on not making a SFL?

I've pointed out a few times how GGG pretentiously claims PoE to be a HC game. But the real target audience, by design, are extremely casual players happy to take on the HC title. Real HC gamers are meant to be suppressed to make the target audience feel more HC. Every so often this is shown WAI.

It's only a good thing that we get rid of the crybaby casuals. This game is about competition, teamwork and occasional luck. That's why it's so addicting, even though I've had a few month break now, but my fingers are itching already to get back on.

SFL will never happen and that's the best decision GGG can stick for. You casuals can cry, whine and whatever but it still won't happen :)
Hey look, your D3 expansion that was supposed to "blow PoE out of water" was just as crap, if not even worse, as we told it would be. So go play that now. Let the real hardcore ARPG gamers enjoy PoE.

Extremly casual players play Facebook and mobile games.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

True, and if those games came with a HC gamer tag, they'd be like a pig in shit.

Huh? Huh? ;)
Casually casual.

No, it would be silly. Casual gamers don't even identify as gamers, what would they gain by being called hardcore gamers?

So what are the characteristics of a casual gamer? Low time investment or simple games?
Is chess for casual players?

If a man plays Temple Run on his mobile phone 6+ hours a day for months, is he a hardcore gamer then, or a casual one?

Help me grasp the whole hardcore-casual philosophy.
I really don't understand the bickering about SFL.

I don't trade. ever. My most successful characters are the ones I play 100% solo. If there was a SFL i would play in it most likely. But any league right now can be SFL if you choose to play that way.
That being said, being strongly opposed to SFL makes no sense.

It would not kill forums (players would still be in other non SFLs)
It would not kill leagues(You are allowed to play in as many leagues as you choose)
It would not kill economy(players who don't trade wont impact the economy in leagues they are not attached to)

If there ever was an SFL you wouldn't be required to play it. I don't like the SC leagues but I understand that others do and i think it's great that others with preferences other than my own have their own access/version of this great game to play as the choose.
Just a dumb suggestion, did anyone advocating a SFL league try to communicate a crowd-funding campaign to raise money for covering costs of implementing that feature? I would be interested in Chris' response on that matter.

I still think they just don't want that. At all, at all costs, even if the community would pay for the whole development. I agree that usually, choices are good.

I absolutely understand why would anybody want a dedicated league for this (~ "You can do SFL even on Ambush you know, just don't trade" - yeah you can, but there is no "ladder hunger", no possibility to compete among other SFLer, plus there is no built-in reason to believe any of those proclaimed SFL-er are truly legit )

But. Is it really - REALLY so many people craving for this to justify the resources put into development?

Second but. How about sharing currency and resources AKA mapping in a party? As I understand it, that should be gone completely as well for SFL being truly SFL. Would that really attract so many people? Or would it be just a "try for fun" in the end.

So TL;DR - did Chris or anybody from GGG comment on crowd-funding possibility?
I'm pretty confident that not only could this league be funded by the players but GGG could make money on it.

I'd say the number one characteristic of a casual player is that he doesn't want to invest either time or actually himself (if that makes sense) in order to have some fun with a game.

To answer your questions, chess can be a casual game, it's very easy to learn. And playing Temple Run 6+ hours a day makes someone a hardcore Temple Run player, yes. If he does this with most games he plays, then he's a hardcore gamer, yes.

If you havent noticed the game is being "crowd funded", if you want a SFL though you could just get together with other SFLers and make your own game with all the SF needs you would want. WHy change this game with GGGs vision of trading when you can make your own game?

Why even care about a ladder? If there was a SFL you would cry about legacy items and people exploiting the game with snap shotting and other ways to win. There is more to it than just being on a SF ladder or not competing with people who RMT.

I never cared about the ladder and i never will.
