Thank you for the CODT change. It has helped fix a no-brainer skill that everyone could use with no drawbacks.

Every char was made better by the previous version of it, which is pointless in the long run, seeing as it is an inflation of sorts. Stronger char = need for stronger monsters.

This at least somewhat balances the spell, but in some way this skill still makes every character stronger, with little thought to individual builds or playstyles. In order to fully balance it, the mana cost of the proc effects should NOT be free.

well, it depends a little. Like for a caster in a team that does not take as much damage, it might be worth considering different skills.
I guess, most builds can afford to have their gloves or boots or whatever used with CWDT skills. But even then, this comes for the tradeoff that you can't level up other gems that you may want to sell.
Well, you had to do something for "cast on damage taken" but making it useless is a bit hard... only usage now are totems (only decoy, rest does so much less dmg) and immortal call (Maybe portal gem but since it's pretty rare, i'm just gonna have to cast molten shell and Warlords Mark again and prolly die because of those cast times, that sucks tbh)...

I read the patchnotes and was really satisfied until "cast on damage taken" gem changes... can't you just add a "Skills supported by this are XX% less effective"? Just like you did with DMG, lol?)

Edit: Couldn't read the whole thread and obviously realised later that this theme is beeing discusted already. I hope this will be seen.

IAM SURELY GONNA REROLL UNTIL I HAVE SOME FEEDBACK ON THE NERFED CODT -.-'
Geezus what an awful way to balance cast when damage taken. It is still useless at high level but now you need low level skill gems to use it at low level. What were they thinking?

yup
Anyone else seeing what is happening here?

GGG gave in and nerfed the unique drop in maps thing after the whine brigade came --->

Now the when brigade has doubled and makes a public outcry at double the force.

reach them a hand and they will take the whole arm, never stopping until the game completely looses its cool nice of beeing pretty hard.

A patch that increases map droprate and map boss loot, while only rebalancing a clearly OP cutter cutter gem they call "OMG RIP SOLO PLAYERS" really? i mean reallllyyyyy?

Bad players with bad specs will never stop trying to drag down the game to their level rather than improving themselfes or even admitting that they themselfes might be to blame.

Today baddys like to use the "solo" or "casual" tag alot to excuse their badness.

It is very interesting that such huge sweeping changes are happening right after the release of the game.

Should have just kept PoE in beta if the testing and implementing of gigantic changes like the CWDT and Purity nerf were just going to be handled like PoE is in beta.

Not trying to be a negative nancy because I love GGG as a company, but I think that they can do much better Q&C than this.

THIS IS NOT BETA ANYMORE TEST THINGS MORE THOROUGHLY BEFORE YOU RELEASE THEM THANK YOU

+1

when i made a huge thread in general disc. about this very issue (sweeping radical changes without any testing whatsoever) ive been zerged to death by fanbois. i see many of them in this thread crying - suits you well, you know who you are

btw - whoever thought that trigger gems that are COMPLETELY NEW LAYER over already very complex combat system will turn out OK without any sort of testing was delusional.

cast on crit - OP

cast on dmg taken - OP

curse on hit - garbage (yes you can do 5 link with split arrow and chain, we know it, wow)

cast on stun - unviable: high life melee chars are quite impossible to stun, eva/dodge based are hardly even hit (so they did not benefit from CoDT anyway). and when you ARE stunned it is a dangerous state that one should at all cast avoid. no dmg modifier makes it even bigger waste of the slot

cast on kill - garbage

there is not a single one that fits into current game without being absolutely over the top (like cast on crit/damage taken). hardly a sign of conscious testing
the change to party play was needed, for sure, the 100% extra life was absolutely raping party play while not really addressing any of the issues solo players had, it was just hurting group play for the sake of it and I dont really feel it was constructive.
Meanwhile as CoDT gets nerfed hard, spectral throw gets a new cosmetic on store. Gotta make them monies guys.

We've tested many, many builds with this change and most characters still gain a lot of benefit from the skill. We'll keep an eye on how it performs after the patch hits and will adjust balance further (the damage thresholds, potentially) based on data.

did you test it with all the desyncs that many many players have to deal with?
did you try the european gateway at "rush-hours"?
i respect your work, ggg, but once again you step into the wrong direction.
you nerfed the auras with the final patch and gave us codt instead; now you destroyed this gem... pls don` t chase away the player-base you just won....

All I want is a BALANCED gem which does not jump from totaly overpowert to totaly underpowert and back again.

Is this so hard to get??

It was overpowert. Now it is underpowert ... as it seams realy hard to make it BALANCED!

I'd don't think this change makes the gem underpowered. GGG's vision for the gem was defense/crowed control. Why GGG didn't anticipate people always using multiple level 1 CwDT gems for resource free offense, linking several leveled up Ethereal Knives gems to multiple CwDT gems, or linking leveled up charge generators and curses to level 1 CwDT and leveled up Discharge to a level 3 or 4 CwDT is beyond me. GGG was a bit short sighted in this thinking people would stick with Endurance Charges, Molten Shell, and Frost Wall, the skills GGG showcased with trigger gems in the BotW video. But anyway, this change was needed. The mechanic was ridiculously OP.

My only complaints are:
- having to acquire new unleveled gems to work within level 31 to 37 level requirements
- the damage required to trigger CwDT at higher gem levels basically makes the gem cast on death or don't cast at all. Solo, self-found, no trading, 2200 to 2500 life is pretty much cast on death for me. Even if I have more life than that, waiting till that point for something to trigger... most likely whatever triggers is not going to save me.
