It would seem like cast on damage taken + enduring cry can't be used anymore. also liked linking this gem to rejuv totem. that's out of the picture as well. Any good use for this gem now?

You built a toon around a broken orb and now you are upset? LOL

GGG fixes most OP mistakes fairly quickly. Anyone remember the LS projectile fix? Same thing in that player base was crying. Don't build toons around broken mechanics!


Lets conciser this. Do not introduce broken mechanics into the game!
Not to make an "i quit" post, but the CoTD nerf i think will cause me to lose a lot of interest. In open beta i played the game quite a bit, but lost interest quickly due to solo play being relatively tough, my characters feeling incredibly weak in merciless. I enjoy group play for difficult content, like rare 70+ maps and such, but I've really enjoyed the utility of my characters with cotd to strike out on their own and run low level maps, kill piety, etc on my own (without the need for ridiculous gear that i haven't been lucky or rich enough to get yet). I feel like the cotd will return my characters to relying on groups for the most basic end game farming tasks, and ultimately drive me from the game again. I really hope GGG withdraws this change until they come up with a (much, much) better idea for how to balance it. It may be a little too good now, but making it absolutely useless is going too far.

How can anybody claim this gem has been nerfed to the ground?

Honestly the amount of pointless crying in this thread is damn near intolerable, the gem is the same, it functions the same, you just need to level it a little bit, I have been leveling it since I picked one up, its now level 17 and it procs 3-4 times every single fight in map 66-67, I can EASILY maintain 5 endurance orbs with just codt proccing and a near perma-molten shell.

Okay so maybe ranged players will take a slight hit, and it is SLIGHT, but they shouldn't be soaking up damage, you have an arsenal of skills at your disposal to help mitigate that damage before it even reaches you, and you still have an extremely potent gem when it does eventually reach you.

This whole thread is full of sulking and incorrect assumptions, Codt will be fine after 2 days of leveling.

do the simple math 2500 dmg taken will either mean:
you already killed the pack by the time u curse/EC/ MS...
You are close to death
Both those situations make CoDT pretty much useless for players that want utility from it, not dmg.

Furthermore, almost EVERY evasion based build will be pretty much screwed as they tend to have less hp and u actually have to take dmg to trigger the gem, there is no cast on damage prevented by dodge/mitigated gem in the game.

And for the part where you say melee is immortal... you clearly didnt play high end maps AND u do not understand that EVERYTHING that CoDT does u can do by yourself but it;s just uncovenienet, yes you can MS/ curse and EC by yourself pretty easily (u know, thats how everybody did it like 3 weeks ago ??) as almost every melee has unnavering stance so stun midcast in no problem, so the only thing this change accomplish is making it more unpleasent and boring for melee chars to play.

CoDT gem nerf was justifed, (I was thinking as many others that this will get hit by the nerfbat kinda fast)and are probably not such a huge nerf people think it is.
At least for those using cyclone or bashing in heads in other ways will probably not notice the nerf that much due the high damage/sec you take anyway. Ranged/caster that don't run up close "tanking" monsters will feel it a bit more though since they naturally don't get hit as much by physical damage.

GGG, you are awesome! Keep up the great work! It's refreshing to find a company that isn't afraid to nerf things that truly need to be nerfed. I suppose that's what happens when your livelihood isn't in the hands of ignorant, disconnected pencil pushers.

You guys need to take a look at CoDT damage taken scaling, if it is to remain viable. Right now, at level 17, you need to take 2,5k dmg before a proc and that's still not getting you lvl20 casts of whatever is linked to it.

After this change, it is optimal to go for Cast on Stunned gems, bigger HP/ES pool (even better with MoM), block rather than armor and just get microstunned all the time, without really noticing it, and get procs without a damage penalty. It even works straight away, while using a CoDT at level 31 is basically impossible.

My setup starting today:
CoDT(max)+Incr Duration(max)+Immortal Call(max)+filler
CoS+End Cry+Molten Shell+Curse
CoS+Flame Totem+Blind+Filler

I'm still essentially immortal, given a good hp pool. I just don't get to do fun stuff and everything is a little less reliable.
