LET ME PLAY 0.1 AGAIN!

0.1 was the most fun I had so far (second to maybe 0.3). Some things were hard and some things were annoying but you just learnt how to get around them and beat it

" 0.3 was exciting for me because of the new act and new story. I imagine a lot of other people will be in the same boat for 1.0 as we face whatever the climax of the story is and see how many contingencies Doryani really has. I have no idea where the story is going to go but questions in my mind are like - What will the complete beast look like when its fully grown? Will it speak? - Who even is Oriana in all of this, and is she going to do a last minute reveal? there aren't many female villains that we know about outside of Atziri. - What happened to Viper in Act 3? its implied something saved her, and Doryani never addresses it which means he may be holding something back. - What injured and put Sin out of commission at the end of Act 4? - If Sin is alive, is Innocence also going to make an appearance? and will that be in the form of an enemy or ally? will he show up to save the day at the end. |

Can't have both "meaningful combat" in POE2 and yet cater to the power fantasy of POE1 players. We are going ever further away from the peaks of boss combat in first two acts in 0.1. Broken mechanic interactions, endless self-proccing triggers, many meta skills, mandatory crit, item power level all have to be brought down significantly (or deleted, if it can apply). Also, it is hard to have meaningful combat when defenses are not balanced, attributes are a joke, and resistances are flat percentages. Early access should've been used to work those core mechanics from ground up, not to add millions piles of layers, gems, league mechanics and 1000 ways of crafting on that weak foundation.

" I disagree. The misconception is that we have to have meaningful combat with all our encounters. For that I agree: its impossible to have that kind of combat ALL THE TIME and at the same time fulfil power fanatasy. Another thing is, and I believe that many players want that, to have parts of the game when the comabt really plays a big part in our experience. It does not have to be while fightning white mob, or it does not even have to be during the campaign (for experienced players). Game has to have some scenarios and content when the combat kicks in. It could be while doing high level maps with tons of buffed content when suddenly the mob life and defences are so high that we can experience their moves and attacks with full force. It also could, and IMO should be while fighting pinnacle content like true end-game bosses. We can have power fantasy of becoming god during our 80-90% of game experience, but its totally in the realm of possibility to have that 10-20% of game when we are goining to be humbled, when we have to switch to more attention focused gameplay. Another layer to that is balance itself: player power curve is, as for today with 0.4, totally out of scale. We're becoming too powerful too fast. Its another topic, but without proper balance (hope it will be done before 1.0) adding new aspirational, combat focues content could be a waste of time. Fix your balance first, clearly put parts of the game that have to be extra difficult, then add content with the whole picture before you. But thats completely separate topic. If a game has no challenge then the game is boring. There's a reason you start off at level 1 fighting rabbits and rats and end fighting the preternal Gods of the Abyss. That's the power fantasy. Not killing them in half a second, but being able to fight them at all much less fight them and win.

" Exactly this! Obliterating regular mobs, be that rats, goblins, humans, is totally acceptable. Doing that to end-game, pinnacle and aspirationan content ESPECIALLY if that content is in form of a boss, is NOT ACCEPTABLE (at least when you first encoutner them with not min-maxed char). Its a mixture of their clear vision of that content (aspirational) and balance of the game. Both things need to be addressed. |

I am so glad people are sharing this view, 0.1 was truly epic! SCARY moments. The Monkey in the Jungle. OMG.
The game has added cooler stuff and more QoL but with this has come very real power creep. I posted continually warning about this at one time but just gave up as it seemed to annoy GOD-fantasy people and zoomers. To me there is a simple solution and that is to bring in ruthless mode for POE2. This is an elegant solution, and I do not believe in "fragmenting player bases". People are going to play solo or with their friends in whatever mode they want. No problem. |

" Accidentally walking too far into that ruin and seeing monkey with his club already raised was terrifying. |
