I remember that last year, several months before the release of PoE 2, I was involved in some heated arguments with folks who constantly kept preaching that all will be fine and that PoE 2 will not steal resources from PoE 1 and that it wouldn't have any influence on it. A blind dog with a dull nose could still see and smell the shite from half a mile away. I'm not sure what those white knights were expecting was going to happen.
Just look at the recent PoE 2 announcement. They legit gave PoE Deuce an Atziri expansion. Can you actually believe it? One of the most iconic and oldest bosses in the game (added in March 2014) that was considered pinnacle for a long time is getting an expansion in a completely unrelated (kind of) game. Look at the content, how it is crafted, the amount of resources pooled into it. What makes me so vividly salty about it is that PoE 1 could have had all of that with the originally promised graphical update and overhaul instead of a completely separate game. I still kill Atziri every league because I like the boss and she was one of my first "pinnacle" fights back in the day. Handing that glory to PoE 2 feels almost like an insult to me. " I mean no rudeness or disrespect - but that reads like you're taking stuff way too personally. They've a new game. It uses the same IP. It draws and seeks to build on stuff originally released in the original game from the series. I worry your reaction might not be the healthiest. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support. " You are aware PoE actually has a lore timeline, right? I am only asking because your post reads exactly like someone fresh to the game who just noticed the content was originally released years ago and hasn’t connected the dots about why Atziri is such an important historical figure. It is the kind of reaction that comes from players who haven’t yet realized how central she is to the Vaal civilization and, by extension, to the story PoE2 is building. If you had actually followed the Vaal storyline, the civilization that shaped half of Wraeclast’s history, her return would seem completely natural. Important lore figures reappear when the narrative revisits their era, and Atziri’s presence in PoE2 is tightly tied to the upcoming story and the foundations of the world. It is not some lazy design choice or random expansion; it is deliberate worldbuilding. So before declaring this a shocking sign of creative collapse, it might help to step back and connect the dots. " Well, they could have given PoE1 a total overhaul, but this was clearly not the plan. They did not want to remodel the entire game into something different, which is why PoE2 exists, to preserve PoE1 the way it is while letting the team work on a fresh game the way they originally wanted to create it. Nothing about that is insulting, since the first game still exists for you to explore the world as a new player and for returning players to continue enjoying it, all while the lore is still being preserved today. If you are really into lore, you might have missed a banger like Conquerors of the Atlas with the whole Sirus storyline, which was introduced long before you started playing. Even in today’s version of PoE, some of the lore is still preserved, giving you a taste of it. Not all of it, but it still gives a solid chunk to understand what is going on with the appearing figures. The same could be said about Vaal and Atziri, whose content was released even earlier. Her name still comes up often enough as an iconic and important figure that you even encounter her again years after the events of PoE1, and her story continues into PoE2. " That really depends on perspective. Two years can feel like a long stretch, I’ll grant that, but personally, I wouldn’t go so far as to call it “a very, very long time.” Especially in a game that’s been out for over a decade, with players who have been around for five times that span, two years is barely a fraction of what a very, very long time really is. " TL;DR of the following spoilered text: -GGG is treating PoE2 like a full title rather than an early access title. -GGG should make "proto-leagues" for PoE2 during it's EA phase, volatile patches that may or may not stay REGULARLY, containing placeholder textures/models/effects/sounds/numbers, with a scheduled "league reset" on a certain day -People are getting angry because the game has the early access tag, yet requires 30€ to access, and then the devs decide it's a good idea to treat it as finished when it comes to the updating schedule (making it so that current players get burnt out, returning players experience the new content and then yeet themselves out) Example: People are demanding atlas and endgame changes since the launch of EA, only very small changes were done, and each time changes are not delivered, people grow frustrated (as those changes... DUE TO IT BEING AN EARLY ACCESS TITLE, should just be thrown in) -Would be better to have weekly rebalances/changes of a placeholder mechanic, rather than wait 4 months for a change that may or may not come, and may or may not actually fulfill what it's meant to do
Spoiler
PoE2 has more resources poured into it right now because of one simple reason, it is not a complete title yet, and demands more effort put into it.
That on its own would be fine, but the real issue is simple. GGG is treating PoE2 like a fully released title (doing big patches/"leagues" rather than simply adding content en masse to the game whenever its available). If they treated it like early access (which it is), then the updates would be more common and contain more volatile content, which is fully to be expected from an early access, but fact is, they aren't doing that. Because I'm sorry, but adding 1 class with 2 ascendancies, a couple of uniques, generic rebalance of skills and uniques, and a league mechanic as a "league" patch, when the game is still missing 4 more classes, several ascendancies to the current roster already, and missing acts, is like a slap to the face. This also makes it so that we are limited to 1 league mechanic per content patch, making the amount of content we actually get to experience limited. Druid was supposed to come in 0.2, but got pushed back to 0.3, then 0.4. Changes to endgame were supposed to come out in 0.3, then some came in 0.3.1, then the ACTUAL/big changes got pushed back to 0.4, and now they got pushed back to 0.5. Now, instead of getting like, a scuffed change to the endgame system, to the atlas system, WIP skills, letting us test it, provide feedback, and actually see more changes done to the game. They are making promises of changes, only to then re-promise those changes to a later date, and again, and again, while they get to test everything internally and us, the players, get changes trickled down towards us, that can but also don't have to be good, ending up in further changes. I'd propose a fix, where GGG would release "proto-leagues", just general content patches of WIP stuff for people to test publicly and give their thoughts on. Placeholder effects, names, etc., all so that people can test changes, big or small. Just imagine getting a class or even just a weapon, with skills like "TEMP - Whirling Assault" and being able to tell GGG via feedback immediately, that when compared to other skills, it's way too underpowered and needs buffs or a rework to be brought more into line. Or something like "TEMP - Blight", with squares as towers and portals. Generally, "proto-leagues" would require less effort (if a change is good for the game, it stays/has more effort put into it afterwards), while also making it so that the playerbase can provide feedback on how it'd perform in the actual game, without it needing to have several weeks or even months of effort poured into, just for it to release in an unplayable state when compared to the rest of the game or roster. " Oh? Not insulting at all? The plan was to provide loyal players with a "4.0 expansion", updating the graphics, animation and the outdated socket system, while at the same time giving us a new campaign with a shared endgame. New ascendancies and new weapon types in our beloved environment. I'm still waiting for that 4.0 expansion. You know, the one they knew for years we wouldn't get, but 'never' told us about, letting us fund and support it for more than two years before finally revealing it will never happen. Jonathan is on record saying "he knew" they would "have to" separate the games around two years before they decided to tell us. If we look at the amount of supporter packs they sold during that time, I seriously do not think "insulting" is such a bad word to use. That said; shit happens during development. Things change. Plans change. And when they change, it all comes down to execution and communications. GGG failed there, and they are still failing regarding communications around PoE1's future. Will we get new animation, character models and all of that 4.0 jazz to PoE1? "Maybe, woulda, coulda, Buddha..." Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" Nah, man, all good. I just sometimes prefer to say things unfiltered to underline my frustration. Because, yeah, I am salty about the fact that PoE 2 got the Atziri expansion and we got this snoozefest of a league. I don't think that kind of reaction is unwarranted, especially if she's one of your favorite bosses. [3.27] Poor Man's Ward Loop: https://youtu.be/p5NA_Rf2TJU

" GGG has been consistently transparent about why there are two separate games, the decision to split development, and why that plan was kept under wraps for months. They have also been clear that PoE1 would not be turned into a copy of PoE2. While some players may have been surprised or disappointed by the secrecy, calling it insulting does not hold up. Transforming PoE1 into an entirely different game would have been far more disrespectful to both the community and the game itself, given how fundamentally different the two titles are. The situation is less about GGG withholding information and more about some players setting expectations far beyond what was realistic. Graphical overhauls and major visual improvements do not happen overnight. They require significant time and resources. GGG has already taken on a heavy burden by committing to releasing a patch every two months. This schedule is designed to appease the instant gratification crowd who would get upset if they do not get a new league every three to four months, even though longer development cycles would allow for higher quality patches. With such short cycles, it is impossible to deliver perfect graphical updates immediately. Even so, GGG has started to tackle the more important aspects of PoE1, including the endgame loop, content updates, and balance changes. The last two leagues and the most recent expansion show steady progress in these areas. The work is not perfect, but that is to be expected when development time is limited and patches are rushed to satisfy player expectations. Delivering rushed, half-finished patches would indeed be far more insulting, but GGG is doing what they can within the constraints of the schedule to satisfy the instant gratification crowd. The problem is not poor intent or lack of transparency. The frustration comes from a portion of the community holding unrealistic expectations and treating every delay or limitation as a slight.
