Love poe 1 hate poe 2

"

1.0 is nothing else than a marketing arbitrary deadline number.

This is the live service hellscape we live in.

The game evolves and changes, but its legacy versions become inaccessible and lost forever once a new update is rolled out.

I liked Sentinel league. I would love to replay it, even in offline SSF mode. I can't. And I mean a legit 3.18 game version. With skill, item and system state as it was then. Not some pathetic 8% chance to get a random terrible sentinel that doesn't do anything.

Even mods are live services today.

I used to be very active in D2 modding, since mid 2000's. I can download Median XL version 1.70. Or 1.86b. Or 1.A9; 1.D9; 1.F9. I can download this and PLAY this as it was then. I was wary of data preservation even back then and kept the files for each major version to this day.

Can I download Median XL Sigma version 2.7? No, I can't. The game is currently at 2.11 and it also utilizes a launcher that pushes mandatory updates you can't skip, even if you play offline mode only. Can you play Project Diablo II season 6? No, you can't because the mod ALSO uses a launcher and forces an update before you start the game.

Launchers, mandatory updates, old versions becoming inaccessible forever.

All is good if you get a good update.

But what about a bad one. Necropolis league replacing Affliction league? Or Kalandra replacing Sentinel? Jesus christ that was rough.

It's ok, maybe GGG will go the Blizzard route and in 10 years introduce "classic leagues" (not private leagues) where all the nostalgia folks can go. Of course said classic leagues will require an entrance fee.
Here is current list of poe 2 features that are in my opinion downgrade from poe 1.

- Multiple boring atlas trees, much less customization in gameplay
- Much more boring atlass skill tree progress system.
- Insanely boring ascendancy areas. Why not implement labyrinth but better? harder with new features?
- No movement skills only dodge.
- Lack of great customization with scarabs.
- bad skill gem system. Poe 1 was perfect.
- Even more imbalanced builds and ascendacies than in poe 1? was it like 60% deadeye on leaguestart? Movement speed is really important and only deadeye is fast enough.
- weird tiering of items... they are going the blizzard lazy of making tiers of one item. this is a massive NO from me. hopefully poe 1 will stay free of this cancer.

I would rather continue to play completely dead hc poe 1 leagues than poe 2.
sucks that its literally the exact same game but with dodge rolls and different skill system.

I hate Path of Exile 1, i just can't stand it.

Yes, you keep posting that. But I never see you explain why. =0[.]o=

- Multiple boring atlas trees, much less customization in gameplay
-> i like the idea behind them tho, where we only get more points for the specific league mechanic IF we engage with the league mechanic.
-> you dont waste points travelling down a massive tree to get league specific passives. you get all relevant league specific passives in one place. also, you can customize ALL league content based to your specific needs and you dont need to choose whether or not you want to change 3 league mechanics and ignore the rest like in poe1.
-> i would agree that the generic atlas tree is boring tho.

- Insanely boring ascendancy areas. Why not implement labyrinth but better? harder with new features?
-> i would say i like the trial of sekhemas all until the last 2 difficulties as the difficulty jump spikes a little too high.
-> i never liked doing trial master challenges in poe1 but i prefer poe2's iteration. tho some of the mod combinations are just pure torment.
-> they just need to be less RNG. i m not a fan of just making things harder. if i m being honest, when players ask for things to be harder, its usually a sign that some builds are just broken.

- No movement skills only dodge.
-> this is a trait. on one hand it allows the devs to create less BS boss mechanics which have to factor in players ability to dash the entire screen away from danger. on another it does slow down the player by a lot. personally i prefer if the game is balanced around players not having movement skills. i m getting old. let me sidestep/dodge roll out of damage and have me slowly walk away from damage areas rather than have me require 80% ms as a base. i prefer more slow and deliberate battles rather than just blitzing.
-> despite saying that some battles in poe2 are not too balanced and require the player to be fast. ggg what do you want?

- Lack of great customization with scarabs.
-> we have tablets instead. personally i would rather they just get rid of scarabs/tablets and just let us choose what mechanics we want from the atlas tree directly. i hate micro managing 10001 different scarabs.

- bad skill gem system. Poe 1 was perfect.
-> i wont say poe1 is perfect. the base idea is good but the socketing, colouring etc is a huge hassle and time waster. you have to choose between an item with good stats or if it has good sockets. in poe2 you dont care too much about colours and gear sockets.
-> i actually preferred it when the supports cant be duplicates. but since theyve changed it, powercreep will happen and most people will just use the same supports all over again.

one thing i can say is that in poe2, i can basic attack melee all act 1-3 bosses (havent tried the new acts) with decent enough gear. i can actively avoid damage and can dance around bosses being pure melee.

this is something i cannot do in poe1 where trumelee is ultra slow and clunky. the bosses/content are not even balanced around trumelee.

poe2 has the trappings of a very solid deliberate game play. but ended up just becoming another poe1 zoomer game.
