GGG, this is not difficulty — it's disrespect
TBH GGG has no clue what to do when it comes to balancing, they simply do not play enough, or understand the interaction or possibly the damage is a bug happening...
I dont care if mark or jon play. What about the other 1000 employee's? Theres obviously people who only code. They do not touch the game. Theres changes made to the game which are clearly not tested. NIGHT AND DAY CLEAR. Mercenaries for one. This is slapped together, and untested. even after multiple nerfs. It's just one shot. NO counter, u come close? ur dead. ITS SO TRASH. Such Potential, ruined! ABSOLUTELY ABOLISHED! by overtuning... I'm no longer supporting this or PoE2. Did not buy any gold or show support for this league or last poe2 league as they were completely overtuned. Yawn fest, boring overtuned trash. which look you had to dial back and update / change 10's of TIMES... Fun league tho I guess! I played 2 characters, about 3 days total played. Died to a merc, died to shaper in originator map Both clearly maliciously overturned. Borderline hilarious. This is a t15 map. Not coming back to this league. I'm tired of dying to something which has clearly never even been looked at. Mercenaries... They do not understand how to balance them, it's so obvious. This is a HC rant. I do not play SC. A death is a reset for me. Not respawn in hideout. Dying to a merc who had no gear no skills, and 2 chaos in his pockets, because he has flat 99% damage reduction, and infinite damage IS A PROBLEM. OVER LOOKED, and OVER TUNED. It's frustrating to the point where I refuse to level in a game where I cannot touch part OF THE LEAGUES CONTENT... lol An actual rating from a HC player of this league is like a solid 3.9/10 That number would be around 8.5 if I could interact with even the most basic of mercs. So... But it's low, with gold being an endless hindrance, mercs being over tuned to near uber boss level. This is one of the worst leagues ever in HC. In terms of disgusting overlooked mechanics. Last time I played a league this bad IN HC was Legion. You couldn't go near rares first week of legion. |

Yep +1
Its why I either don't bother getting to a high level, or just live in Sanctum where its safe and I have a 0% chance of dying until I hit lvl100. That or I go on TFT and pay one of the generous legion 5-way rota hosts my hard-earned divine orbs. I don't care how I get to my target level, if this game wants to be designed in such an anti-player way with time wasting archaic mechanics such as exp loss on death then all I can do is completely go around them and ignore them. Its 2025 not 1998, I think its time for GGG to let go of some of these outdated designs from D2. That game was never perfect. |

I subscribe to the "the problem is the t17 mods" idea.
A lot of what you're saying is true, but I think it only reaches the level of nonsense when combined with things like extreme reduced effect of auras. And when 1/2 of all the mods you can roll are that bad, there's no "just avoid the mod" solution. Putting these on originator maps doesn't solve the t17 problem, it instead forces you to interact with it. I say remove these mods and maybe even t17s alltogether. This entire mess started with trying to fix the problem of people farming uber pinnacle bosses, but it's ruining the entire game to solve a small problem... |

" I understand how rippy many of them are....but some are just downright FUN to play with. Like all rare monsters having volatile cores can be a blast, getting chased by flaming balls of death through an entire map encounter is actually quite fun. One wrong move and you're dead....a la OG Mario games and other arcade-style stuff. People just don't want a hard game....and get really REALLY upset when presented with something that's...hard. Both mechanically and creatively (in terms of build) Shutting off damage via petrification and the 3-every-10 mod is just nonsense that should be discarded. They add a "time" cost and have absolutely no other potential positive. Those and reflect are just straight up BAD mods. Other things like the curses and massive boosts and charges can all be dealt with by properly building your character FOR the t17 maps. You cannot take any old t16-capable build and expect it to perform the same in t17s. You actually need to KNOW the mods and design a build to overcome them. But.....that is literally the point of playing PoE. What other point is there to this game (and the entire genre, mind you) than creating a character that can tackle the content you want it to tackle. As long as the restrictions on that content aren't just straight up stupid (petrificiation/deal no damage/reflect) and there aren't too many similar mods, they mostly fit the next logical step of difficulty and fun to the character building process. Bossing is very tough to "compare" in terms of difficulty, because with bosses you can always learn the mechanics and get so good at the encounter that you avoid basically everything that happens. Ben beating bosses ungeared shows this to the extreme. Regular mapping renders that almost impossible: you HAVE to interact with the mods that are occurring and thus your character building is directly influenced which is GREAT. And how quickly do people forget.....these are freaking UBER CONTENT! Well beyond "normal" gameplay, even beyond "expert" gameplay. It is specifically designed to be the absolute pinnacle of challenge which inevitably shuts down many builds, and works extremely hard (and well) to kill you. Very few players in a league are going to be capable of taking on ANY t17 mods and that is natural and fine. It needs to be said so many times but YOU AREN'T ENTITLED TO CLEAR ALL CONTENT IN A LEAGUE. Nor are you entitled to be able to clear everything on the same budget, the same build, the same playstyle, etc. This is a game of longevity: you get better and better, faster and faster, through YEARS of playing. If you are getting hit by volatile core balls often.....you are simply not good enough yet. Yes, even when there are 100 of them after you at once. You shouldn't need ANY defense against them apart from your own gameplay. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Jul 5, 2025, 7:15:11 PM

" How can one person contradict themselves so much without a hint of irony? You accuse others of wanting an easy game, but in the same breath classify the mods you don't seem to able to deal with as "rippy" or "bad", while others you know how to deal with as "fun"? I know you wrote all of this as a way to flatter yourself, but ultimately, you just look like your "average run-of-the-mill hard content gatekeeper". |

" Reading comprehension practice goes a long way. There is no contradiction: you realize it can simultaneously be true that there are a FEW straight up bad mods, while also saying that t17 mods overall aren't a problem in the slightest. I just happen to be more specific than the posts before me. It's also true that something can be rippy AND fun. The "people want it easy" point is that they have zero interest in even attempting to overcome the mods. Instead they are here complaining about ALL OF THEM. Based on how you interpreted what I wrote, obviously you think the same as them. Character building is a progression: t17s are the end pinnacle challenge content to your build. " Honestly, after a couple of days of mulling it over, I think the problem is the combination of t17 mods and "increased effect of map mods" in all its forms (which are sometimes even a problem in t16 maps, 90% reduced aura effect? what?). And I don't even think it's a problem with how hard the game can get, as in theory the game can be infinitely hard. I think the problem is that the rewards scale with the difficulty in such a way that a build that can do the maximum amount of mod effect is so ridiculously favoured it's not even funny. I think some reduction to the reward scaling, or at least to the levels to which the mods can reach, would be a good solution. Whichever the case, the current situation with character defenses and high end map mods is completely unsustainable as is to me. And don't even get me started with non-map mechanics. When was the last time that blight ravaged maps, simulacrum or even delve were comparable to mapping? Edit: You guys, I know this person is stating some unpopular opinions, but it's not like they are asking for the game to be taken down, be respectful! " yep this map mod effect stacking kills other content that can't do that. Sure you can farm unid voices in simulacrums and sell them to gamblers but the mechanic itself is just not rewarding enough compared to something like T17 abyssal risk. I feel shoehorned to play a cookie cutter build that doesn't care about mapmods at all and only needs to read the number next to "more currency" line. 100% less aura effect? I can handle this. -36% max res? No problem. No recovery or regen? No problem either cos i leech and recoup. |

" Not making excuses here but there are two problems Firstly their schedule is unbelievably tight now, so testing will be minimised and we will suck it up in return for faster content releases - they can and should do better, but that's been the case for ages lol its not a good time to do new shit blind on HC though. Secondly the games now impossible to balance anyway, they've always had a scattergun approach to it but it had an underlying current that said they knew where they were going. I'd say T17s/Ubers release onwards its just gone nuts and there is no way to address this anymore without pissing off a huge amount of the playerbase. Whatever they did would have to be drastic and sweeping it just isn't going to happen. Basically enjoy it for what it is but you'll have to play something else if you no longer do - This isn't going to go back. |
