My 5090 will arrive too late :'( I will be in juice red maps too early

I'm still enjoying my 1080ti

You could try Vulkan renderer, as that's a bit easier on the CPU. Enable Triple Buffering. Reduce channel count in audio settings to Medium or Low, or disable sound effects altogether in the config file.

Whoops, just as when you were typing this I realized I forgot to even try to optimize PoE1...
(I spent all the free time since changing to the new GPU and SSD and OS last weekend trying to optimize Clair Obscur and PoE2 for streaming to Steam Link / Deck.)

Specifically now I switched from Vulkan to DX12, and I'm up to 60 FPS even in this very poorly optimized hideout.
(I'm suspecting that because DXVK is optimized for DX12, it's weirdly getting better performance than the supposedly more OS-independent Vulkan when running under (not-)emulation.)

I also then switched Wine from wine-ge-8-26-x86_64 to GE-Proton, but didn't notice an effect.

Those are the ones that I know off the top of my head. For the record, PoE 2 is even heavier on the CPU. Like, significantly so:

This is from a while back, when I still had a 7600X3D.

Edit: Just checked your CPU performance. Yeah, that thing is kinda ancient. The i5-12400 is a 6C/12T CPU that costs around €130 and is more than 3x as fast in Multi-Core, and more than 2x as fast in Single Core. I'd say you need an upgrade, mate.

Oh yeah.

Still, the performance (with the RX 470 still, under Win10, in December) was good enough for me, except maybe in this Act 2 town, and specifically in the Act 3 Drowned City where it started to bother me.

Also, a few more areas (Keth in Act 2 for some reason ??) in couch co-op with the additional overhead of streaming.

But yeah, specifically for PoE2, I'll probably upgrade to something like a FX-8350 once the summer heat is over.

so this is the rig that I use for my AI work and 3d vfx sims...
I could post some screenshots from POE once I plug my 5090 and go full throttle on it

my RAM is rated at higher speeds, my Slots can probably go upto 8000 Mhz or something, it's just they are stable at 5200 MHZ I have 4x48 RAM Bricks in there, Ram becomes very unstable after 64Gb

Currently I edit some Photoshop files that are like 50Gigs size.

This cloud sim in Phoenix FD took about 90 gigs of RAM.

Is there a reason why you are not spending extra to upgrade your PC? Budget constraints or ... ?

The FX-8350 is even more ancient (2012) and hard to come by these days, and on Amazon it goes for ~€70. You can get a whole motherboard + RAM on the used market for that price. I think you can easily more than double/triple your performance with ~€200-300 in used upgrade parts.

You'd be surprised. There was a guy arguing in the technical support forums that PoE runs like shit on his 1050ti build. According to him, PoE is a old game and therefore needs to be optimized for equally old hardware. After some digging we learned that he paired his 1050ti with an "recent Intel processor" (his words!) that turned out to be an i5-2500k.

Some people are either trolling or clueless. You can't tell me otherwise.

The problem here lies with the fact that Steam still has it listed as a 2012 2013 release, and character models to this day do not reflect all the updates that went into it. People look at those potato faces and think the entire game is like that, completely disregarding everything else around that. Or at least that's a theory I have anyway. They seem to have a distorted image of what 2012-2014 graphics were like.

Edit: Correction. Listed as 2013.

I have my reasons that I'd rather not derail the thread with.

I'll have to look into the details of the matter after the summer.
In the end it might not be that specific AM3+ CPU,
and, yeah, potentially a whole MB + CPU + RAM change.
(How is RISC-V coming up ?)

P.S.: PoE1 might be listed as 2013, but was released in 2012, a few weeks before D3.
