My 5090 will arrive too late :'( I will be in juice red maps too early

Why go for the budget RTX 5090 when the RTX 6000 Pro is a thing? ;)

Doesn't really matter, though? When I was waiting for my 4080, I popped in a used GTX 1080 I bought for €120 and just played in 1080p until the card arrived. Not a problem, at all. Check your local second hand market.

Honestly, that’s a terrible suggestion. Buying some old used card for a couple of weeks just to toss it when their new one comes in is a complete waste of money. They’re better off sticking with what they’ve got and dealing with the low FPS for a bit. At least they won’t be throwing cash away on a gamble with ancient old hardware that may or may not even perform well, only to get tossed the very first moment the 5090 shows up at the door.

It’s kind of like when someone says the 7800X3D isn’t “worth” the extra price because it’s supposedly too expensive, so they go for the 7600X3D instead. But then, once the 7600X3D doesn’t quite cut it, they suddenly change their mind and grab the 9800X3D, one that has very similar performance and price to the 7800X3D. Classic move on how to waste money on hardware. Sometimes it’s worth taking a step back and thinking twice. In this case, skipping the old used GPU is definitely the smarter choice.

Grabbing a temp old and used GPU is no different in terms of smart investment. It’s just throwing away money on something that’s gonna be irrelevant as soon as your real upgrade arrives. Might as well save the cash, ride out the low FPS for a bit, and invest it into future upgrades.

Based. Who would do such thing?

Well, maybe you got lucky with this one, but that doesn’t mean it’s a guaranteed outcome everywhere. The reality is, you won’t always find cards in good condition for dirt cheap, and not everyone is looking to buy decade old used stuff.
I, for example, put all of my old GPUs on the wall as decoration because literally nobody, even with a very dirt-cheap price and in pretty mint condition, bothered to buy them. So while you might’ve made a sale this time, it’s usually a wasted investment and not a reliable suggestion for most people.

Right?! It’s like they’re out here making terrible choices, then handing out advice like they’ve unlocked the secret level of wisdom. And the best part? They’re convinced they’re right! Whether it’s hardware or PoE, they just keep flinging wrong info around and getting called out every time. It’s like watching a car crash in slow motion, hilarious, but also a little tragic.

Mate, I've been buying and reselling used GPUs for over 10 years now. There's not a single GPU that hasn't resold. People always need one. I specifically bought a GTX 1080 because it retained value pretty well. Just because you don't know how to do it, doesn't mean it's like that for everyone. And not everyone lives in the US where consumer laws are stacked against you.

Well, that's great for you, but that doesn’t reflect the reality for everyone. The situation isn't the same worldwide, every country has its own market dynamics.
In most cases, you're either paying more than you'd get back or can't even resell it at all because interest in older GPUs has dropped significantly. We're not in 2018 anymore, where hardware was in high demand and options were limited. It's 2025 now, and people have a lot more choices, with many opting for future-proof, smarter investments, rather than a decade old card that’s already struggling to keep up. Just a little reality check there.

If you don't know the context, maybe just you-know-what?
That's why I asked. I'm genuinely curious as to why someone would chose that "upgrade path".

I don't owe you any explanation, and I have reasons of my own of why I switched. None of it has anything to do with your shitty guesses. You don't know my procedures, so kindly **** off.
Huh. You okay friend?

My old titan card would like to have a talk with you.
This gpu is just a dust collector within my closet after I took down my online listing after 2 1/2 of nothing. lol
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.
