Need an advice from Cyclone professionals

I'm planning to league start as a phys Cyclone Champion on HC, but I never tried that before and I don't see any up to date guides around. The closest thing I tried is Ngamahu Cyclone Slayer and it's a lot of fun, but pretty much not viable.

So, here're my questions, would appreciate some answers:

1. Assuming I go for physical cyclone, do I always want impale? If so, how do I get 100% these days (after the bricked banners)?

2. What weapon type should I aim for? I've heard people use shockwave, but then it doesn't work with axes and swords. What are the good options in this regard and what uniques to aim for if any?

3. Crit or RT?

4. Good ways to get ail immunity with this archetype?

5. For support gems - I assume Brutality and Infused Channeling are mandatory. What else to look out for? Maybe some trans gems too?

#1 You can get impale from passives or the gem depending on your tree efficiency, it isn't that bad to get 100% without the gem but i've had trees where it was better to use the gem and save 10 passives than vice versa - kinda tree specific.

#2 Axe for pure cyclone probably a fleshripper eventually, though realistically Shockwave is pretty bampf I usually end up using it.

#3 RT initially then Crit when you get a good base crit weapon and have some wonga for the accuracy requirement on your gear, might stay RT if you end up with a massive bonk stick and your doing mace.

#4 Freeze/chill immunity on boots, shock effect minor pantheon + 1 or 2 jewels, shouldn't have a problem with ignite due to juicy regen. I personally run stampede on every cyclone build though then you could pantheon freeze immunity and get reduced chill effect on gloves/jewels etc honestly its pretty easy to get your ailment immunity these days.

#5 standard pure phys gems

Just use this as a template. Woolie doesn't necessarily make the "best" builds, but they are simple and straight forward - and strong enough.

The simplest ways to get ailment immunity on an attack build, is often via Stromshroud or Ancestral Vision.

Impale is more or less a must if you're going physical. It got some buff last leagues and is in an OK state. They added some new passives on the tree last league (or a couple of leagues ago), and reaching 100 shouldn't really be a problem - especially if you're going Swords, where you'll get a nice mastery for 20%.

Shockwave is probably the strongest, but not by much, I think. Axes have some very nice masteries. If you go crit+staff (+shockwave), you WILL die a little bit inside over the tremendously crappy crit sound effects staff attacks have.

Come endgame, crit will be the way to go, as in most builds.

Phrazz is hitting on the same points but don't plan for Stormshroud/Ancestral vision on HC, you'll have to do a decent amount of content before you are likely to be able to get one. Supply is limited and demand is high.

Thanks a lot, this is very useful! I'll go for axes and keep a shockwave support around c:

Just remember that Shockwave is Staff only.

Wings of Entropy axe got giga buffed and it's a pretty good weapon for cyclone I'd be tempted to try that if I wanted to play cyclone this league.

Also cyclone is pretty low in terms of damage effectiveness so I would plan on having to cut defenses to get damage enough for t16s.

Thought about it some more and real answer here is copy bens build even though hes playing snaking and you'd have cyclone you'll at least have a solid hc viable tree / gear.

Where is the link to Ben's build?

I would level as a Slayer until you get better gear to field the champion. Slayer is just straight up easier, more power, and more aoe, for less. You don't need the defense of Champion until later in the endgame anyway.

Abusing the new champion nodes is going to take specific uniques and decent investment. Won't really shine right away. Plus, you can easily get max fortify on Slayer too just taking the single fortify wheel in the bottom left.

Infused Channelling + Pulverise + Brutality + Melee Physical + Increased AoE / Concentrated Effect / Crit / focused channelling (if the mana cost isn't ridiculous)
Starting anew....with PoE 2

I consider slayer to be a bait on hc. He has decent defences in combat, but every time I go for it I get off-screened by something while I'm out of combat and there's no leech/fortify going on.

Thanks for the gem suggestions though!
