A Simple Poll - Exp Loss on Death
There are enough modes as there are. How many more modes are we planning to do ? 5 - 6 - 10 ?
No. Come one, this is really not serious. It's up to the players mindset to deal with the game as it's designed. Or just leave it. Why is this such an issue to lose exp on death? I know it's frustrating and all but that's part of the experience. None of the responses I read convince me AT ALL. I have the sensation it's just some people expressing their frustration ant that's it. POE 2 is not a phone or a mainstream game and it shouldn't be. PS: There is an omen that helps an it's just a small investment |

"The game has no challenge without XP loss" but also "hardcore is different, I just want an opportunity for softcore challenge" but also "I just reroll, I'm not aiming for level 100."
Why are they always like this? Last edited by SpankyKong#9805 on Jun 9, 2025, 9:51:59 AM

" Your point? There is no point or reasoning whatsoever in this reply. Again all I sense is frustration. |

" The first statement is factually wrong because HC exists. So you swiftly moved onto statement 2, claiming you wanted an opportunity for challenge (& lobbying against others even having an option for the opportunity they want). Culminating in - a contradary revelation via statement 3, that you aren't even pursuing the challenge to reach level 100 because you just reroll. |

" It's not wrong at all. There are different ways of getting challenged. In softcore you can make mistakes and learn how to get better, and then if you wish, try to get to level 100. I won't do hardcore personally and I have great respect for the people who do. My 3 statements are not contradictory at all; they show that there is already flexibility in how you approach the game, by giving examples. simple as that... No need for all this fuss about trying to change the game design. XP loss has been in Poe since it started. Everybody knew it when they started to play. What needs to improve is the game in itself in order to help people not to die from a screen overloaded with unreadable effects |

" No ability to recover XP forces boring playstyles that consist of either being overly cautious or meta screen clearing. It's completely contradictory to the campaign playstyle of more slow, meaningful, and methodical combat that supposedly is the vision. POE2 was supposed to be different than POE2 in that sense. If they want to make a blend of souls and ARPG, XP needs to be recoverable near where you died. Death is a part of non HC and shouldn't be avoided at all costs to save hours of grinding, it should be a minor inconvenience that gives the player incentive to learn from it but not get completely frustrated from overly punishing penalties. I haven't seen a single logical or compelling argument as to why XP shouldn't be recoverable after death, not one. If I still have portals and can make it back to recover my XP, then I shouldn't be punished the same way as if I'm playing content beyond my level. +1 but....
My $.02. Take it or leave it. I care not. Dont know if anyone already brought this point up, didnt feel like reading 50 more pages to see. Yes, D2 had 5/10% xp loss, *and* you dropped all your equipped gear - however, by making it back to your corpse -or- just restarting the game, you would get back your gear and 75% of the XP loss. Unless you died on the way to your corpse that is. So really, unless you were unlucky or reckless the XP loss was 1.25% or 2.5%. I am not against death penalties. I just find the one here to be a bit harsh. POE 1 and 2. Where can we find a balance point to make (well I doubt everyone will ever be happy) all people the least unhappy as possible? City of Heroes Debt works for me. Even the old days when you could have more than now. Instead of losing XP you get a number of XP points you owe back, losing 1/2 your XP gained till you are out of debt. Debt = to 1.5 levels as a cap means if you keep going down and dont play well your always going to be at 1/2 xp gain. There are other systems and ways to penalize death without it needing to be a total progress blocker. We just need to get creative and be willing to work to a common goal of making the game best for everyone. **Asus TUF x670E Gaming, 7950x3d, AIO Corsair H150i Elite, TridentZ 192GB DDR5 6400, Sapphire 7900XTX, All Samsung 4k: 56"<->Arc2 55"<->48", NVME Sabrent Rocket 2TB, MP600 Pro 8tb, MP700 2 TB. It is really a setting that makes players hate.
In the case of all kinds of wonderful sudden deaths, this setting is full of malice to the players. |

" And here you do NOT lose your gear, and with a omen (cheap item) the xp loss is 2.5% guaranteed. |

+1
An option to toggle it on/off would be perfect. At least till all the (server) issues killing you through no fault of your own are fixed. XP Omens are not sustainable in SSF for me btw. |
