Nonsense. That's simply not how the talent tree works. Diminishing returns due to additive scaling means that the last few points add almost nothing, especially when contrasted by the massive additional power that can be gained from gear. It's simple math, regardless of build.

c) I've been playing Elden Ring. I can recover all my xp on death and combat is engaging and meaningful. Even From Software knows XP loss with no recovery is a stupid idea.

In FromSoftware games you can literally lose exp from level 1. You can have a hard time even getting to level 2, if you have bad luck. You can also lose multiple levels.

In poe2 you can get to level X, with no loss. And then you lose a percentage.

You can't compare these two games.

+1 my two cent. as long as defense si so unfinished, they should reduce thepenalty to 50%. when armor anc co is fixed, they can go back to normal

Dying already loses you a portal, and all the extra juice on the map. There's already enough penalties in the game, on top of dying itself feeling bad. The game doesn't need to kick you a 5th time while you're down, this is why people want exp loss gone. It just deletes potentially days or weeks of your farming for no reason at all.

Dying already loses you a portal, and all the extra juice on the map. There's already enough penalties in the game, on top of dying itself feeling bad. The reason is you either didn't pay attention, made a mistake or didn't have the right gear for the map-mods you're running (yeah, lag, discos, etc. yadayada). Being lvl 100 won't make you magically good and unkillable.

No, the reason is overtuned mobs and map mods, and random oneshots that happen in a fraction of a second which no human can react to fast enough.

Stop trying to misdirect this conversation to lvl100, nobody is talking about that and nobody cares about getting to lvl100 here. All we want is to not lose our earned progress on death. Its my exp and the game has no right to steal it from me. Stop trying to blame the players for bad,archaic game design.
