I agree.

Dark Souls fights are carefully balanced around skills and timings, and your gear doesn't really play a huge role. They are also balanced around trial and error, as you have unlimited amount of (free) tries. In PoE (and other ARPGs), high-end fights are usually gated behind time, effort and investment, so there needs to be room for "over preparations".

Again, gear and builds should be the focus. And the more your skill, reaction and timings matter in a boss fight, the less your gear matter.

;) Yep, dark souls and their boss designs should stay there. PoE should be different.
New mute system is terrible - no trade...

If you want harder just play ruthless, its harder everything without all the endless juice, like they already made the perfect mode if you want suffering. otherwise try hardcore. that will also make you rethink how hard the game is

Players need to be encouraged to learn boss mechanics and plan accordingly. Learning to use 2x sapphire rings is a crucial learning experience for new players when fighting mervail and that already trivializes the received damage. and that's OK... but damage should not be so good that you can do sub 30 seconds.

Since there's not a lot of activity in these forums anymore, it's hard not to revisit this. It's kind of fascinating how someone can cite having 12 years experience as clout all the while never having defeated Shaper or beyond.

Believing stacking cold resists from 2 saph rings against merveil is "crucial"...

I mean even my first league I was familiar with the concept of resists (from D2) but even as a newbie I didn't feel a need to stack resist at least until maybe act 3 (chaos res),but really more a matter of mechanics and standing next to dominus in second phase which is more something I'd do in an MMO and goes against the instinct of keeping a distance away. A far more pressing issue being the slows from the chill as a melee. And while yes, chill is affected by cold damage taken, being slowed never feels good.
Yep, totally over league play.

We have so much power creep that bosses are no struggle at all.

It's laughable if it wasn't so sad.

I think one of the main contributors is Ascendancy. It's basically a free support gen per lab you do. no need to care about gear, its just added damage or a large defensive buff... for what is essentially free.

Now, general clearing for white mobs feels good, but bosses could really do with a massive health increase. and I mean massive. Somewhere in the 10x range. It should not take sub 30 seconds to kill mervail. You spend more time waiting for her to shift forms then the actual damage phases.

You guys did a good job not that long ago when improving boss fights... but then you went ahead and MASSIVELY buffed damage... you can leave regular white mobs alone... but 10x the health of bosses...please. The fights themselves are not bad, you just kill them so quick you never see the phases, or feel inclined to dodge.

EDIT:

I used mervail as a simple example and yes I know, you wont have ascendanced yet. Ascendancies just make it worse going forward.

No thanks.
ARPGS like PoE being the spiritual successor of D2 is where people enjoy speeding, some thrills on the first ride and then steamrolling content.

This whole "let's put Dark Souls in ARPGs/Hack'n'Slash" is mixing water and oil.

i think simple boss but dangerous feels fine without going all the way to darksoul. a simple hillock or hailrake or brutus or the spider are enough mechanics if you give them some damage. or diabo 2 style. so you feel some amount of danger. at least for my taste.

Just play PoE2. Most of us in Poe1 enjoy the power creep and fast gaming as it is.
