XP penalty and likely 1 portal is NOT going anywhere
Imagine GGG remove xp penalty, and give us 6 portals, what would it mean?
1. Literally 0 reason investing into defense at all. 2. It doesn't matter if you die or not, you still have more portals anyway. 3. This encourage more and more people play exactly same fastest builds. 4. This encourage people play builds that clear screens with half of gear being rarity and 0 defenses. 5. It just delete build diversity. 6. It once again remove any reason investing into defense above bare minimum. Not denying that some stuff there in maps do hit hard. And it hit harder if you don't care about mods on your waystones that can make easy map into deadly map. If you die in maps on your 1500 life build, its not game problem, its your problem. If you die in maps because you didn't bother investing into defenses, its not game problem, its your problem. Game will change a lot and not once during Early Access. Work around to make your character good, instead of complaining about "game problem" that is your build problem in reality. Some tips that might help you: - On builds that naturally don't have high life, you should definitely go into hybrid life/es, or life/es/evasion, its good, its worth it. - You might know that armor is bad, work around it, get a bit of armor against smaller hits, just stack more life against bigger hits instead of going hard into armor, since currently there's just nothing in the game that hit for more than 4k phys damage, so for example 4k life character with 5k armor will tank higher hit than 3k life character with 15k armor. - Most of stuff that kill you in maps is elemental but not phys. So max resists and higher life/es is the way to make melee character tanky. Very few mobs that you find in maps can hit hard with phys damage, but almost all if not all of those mobs are very slow and easy to avoid. Last bumped on Jan 21, 2025, 8:51:22 PM

if you lose 10% instead of 2,5% it's also on you (at least on trade league)

People are ALREADY playing glass cannon builds since defences aren't reliable enough.
Removing the exp penalty won't change this, all it would do is increase the build variety for those seeking the lvl 100 mark. |

Glazing GGG over and over and over, then pretending everything is the players fault is a bit pretentious. Then suggesting ES is the way to go is just the icing on the cake.
I just hope they do good on their word and actually make PoE2 different from PoE1, because as of right now, the endgames are the same. |

" Also to note that the game was released with all the Armor+ES items even though the Templar/Druid aren't released ; making them good items to build enough Armor but with added ES on top of Life for improved EHP against big phys hits. |

" who cares about lvl 100 99% of the ppl bitching about penality will never make it to 100 even with no penality at all. Me i'm not aiming for 100 either probably call it a day at 95ish. Build variety has nothing to do with exp penality either it's about balancing class and skills so you can have as much option as possible but still there will always be some "meta" build that player tend to play the most. |

Its is laughable that the people talking about builds always turn to ES...
Build variety, ANY build should be able to get to endgame if spend at least 10 divines, if I spend 100 divines in my ranger shooting butterflies at the enemies with 75% res and 80% evasion with 2,5k life I really expect to win. Go to any game, Really Any game, MMORPG, RPG, Adventure, Casual, etc, if you have endgame gear you can comfortably do the endgame. POE2 is following the same Problem POE1 always had, that is even with the best of the best gear you can still get one shot, at least in POE1 there is some broken builds that you could really be immortal, but in POE2 not even this happen if you stay with the strongest gear possible in the middle of WHITE mobs you will die, this isn't fun at all. |
|
" Many builds can do endgame at 10 Divines, including mace builds, including range builds. If you spent 100 Divines on your build but it still bad, then that build i bad, or you didn't bother spending that much currency in more efficient way. PoE2 or PoE1 is not any other game, why it has to be same as other game? Don't stay in middle of white mob packs, kill them. |

1 portal needs to go, that is the only thing that needs to go, exp penalty is fine, dropped loot shouldnt disappear because of death, i dont mind if the entire maps living mobs vanish when you die, what i do care about is the loot that has already been dropped
