Is everyone wrong about warstaff sockets?

"
yeah all forms of increased damage that apply are additive and any portions of your damage that are effected by different sources of increase are calculated in parallel and summed at the end.

thats why were saying getting global increased damage on the sockets could be better and could be worse depending how much other increased damage is in the build.

i actually think a fully optimised build is more likely to want the phys runes because when you have a perfect phys weapon theres so much flat damage on it to be multiplied nd youve probably squeezed a lot of increase out of the tree.

And I even made that caveat the folks with like 700-1300 PHYS weapons yes would benifit from the Iron rune I dont dispute that. But again everyone always brings up edge cases. Like how many of those weapons are even in the game being used a dozen or 2 tops?

COMPLETELY wrong. iron rune becomes weaker if your wep has very high %phys roll

how are people so bad at math

It's always worth bearing in mind:
Elemental monk who wants elemental damage on their weapon,
and physical monk who just wants physical damage without caring about elemental,
are two different builds.

My monk uses quarterstaffs that have no element damage whatsoever, has taken no elemental nodes on the passive tree, and doesn't use any of the elemental skill gems.
So to me seeing element affixes on a quarterstaff, bricks it.
I used Nazir's Judgement to reach cruel before bothering to get a better yellow.

At some point I may make an Invoker who's gonna be all about elements and stack everything elemental I can get.

To be fair to people, it's a bit counterintuitive.

They look at a weapon, see "100 damage" at the top (after affixes), and expect an iron rune to add 20.
They look at another weapon, the same base, with a higher %phys roll, so it says "200 damage" at the top, and expect an iron rune to add 40. More, from the same % on a bigger number.

That's the most obvious version of how it would work, so a lot of people just go through with that understanding without noticing the numbers didn't change they way they thought they would.
It's not even that they're doing math wrong, it's just not occurring to them that the obvious equation isn't the one being used.
It doesn't help that when looking at a weapon we only see the damage that resulted from everything on it, not the base damage it had to start.

it WILL add 20 if the weapon doesn't have any phys % roll, and it will add less if it already has some phys % roll

the mod and the rune have the same wording, the math is very simple and it's not counterintuitive

if it worked like you described while the affix and the rune have the same wording, that would be extremely counterintuitive and confusing

The wording is just "20% increased physical damage."

The intuitive result is that if the weapon is currently doing a total of 100, it will now do 120, and if the weapon is currently doing a total of 200, it will now do 240, with no other component of the weapon being relevant. The 100 and the 200 being after any existing %phys on the weapon.
The previous total X 1.2 is what's intuitive.
Anything else is a departure from intuitiveness.

People are simply making the mistake of reading what it says, and taking it at face value.

250 base damage on the weapon

+50 flat roll

300 total flat

220% increased physical damage with %phys and hybrid%

300*3.2=960 pdps

2x iron rune turns it into 260% inc phys

300*3.6=1080 pdps

2x iron rune is 12.5% more pdps on the weapon

comparing this to 2x soul core, which is 60% inc ele

assuming 80% conversion (ice strike), we can assume that this is basically 48% inc attack damage

if you have 250% inc attack damage, 48% inc is %13.7 more damage (48/350), which is more than iron runes

---

if the weapon instead had 150% inc local

300*2.5=750 pdps

2x iron rune would turn it into 190% local

300*2.9=870 pdps

120/750 is 16% more damage, which means iron runes are now better than soul cores, because the weapon has less local %

so shut up if you have no clue what you're talking about

it all depends on the rolls on the weapon and how much % generic damage you have on your gear/tree, there's no universal choice here

I'm also dealing 100% elemental damage with conversion, but elemental dmg soul cores are absolutely terrible on my build because I already have like 500% increased damage from the tree. it's so simple

"

Can you site the source as I was under the impression increased attack would be calculated after the elmental damage as obviously we are not doing true poe math with APS and vs res armor etc

??

what are you even talking about, have you ever played poe 1

there's no such order, ALL increases are additive

And you say I cant math? First off calling it pdps would be wrong as no1 is trying to do a true DPS number as that math would be wild. Hence why you need to explain the example as I did. And second just adding an extra 100% starting from line 3 gesss your embarrassing yourself now move along son.

?????????????????????????????????????????

PDPS IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS FOR RUNES

ELEMENTAL MODS ARE GLOBAL AND REQUIRE A SEPARATE CALCULATION WITH THE MODS ON GLOVES AND RINGS

ARE YOU STUPID
