Optimization? Ryzen 5600x 3070 32 gb 60 fps lock. Fps drops to 30-40.

Find your

poe2_production_Config.ini

in "C:\Users\YourUsernameHere\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile 2" and open it with notepad.

Find the [SOUND] section and set

sound_effects_volume2=FALSE

"False" is important because it actualley disables those sounds instead of still playing them with a zero loudness.

It will leave boss audio and item filter sounds unaffected.

If you want to keep sound effects you might try to set

reverb_enabled2=false

instead of the method described above which can also help.

5800X3D and 4060 running at 1080p with DLSS and I drop to 30-40 fps sometimes too with everything but textures on low.

When I play with my 1 or 2 of my friends I sometimes drop in the 20-30fps range.

The game runs stable at 144fps with adaptive sync, but depending on the content it can become very unplayable.

The game definitely needs some optimization, I would love to know what kind of systems GGG used to test this game out before releasing or if they think 30fps is acceptable without high end systems.

I think they didnt tested this... they released it to EA too fast. And cuz of that we have a tons of bugs / disbalanced features and etc.
I just cant play normally, this fps drops are making me mad and i want to delete this game. Mb i buy 4070 super and check it on 2k res soon.. I hope this will help.

They have had 11 years of testing for the engine and I can tell you with confidence: it is what it is. This is now new, weird or unexpected, the second you have more than 3 goats on fire on your screen, it's -50% FPS.

OK but tons of other people have issues.

Share your config and maybe help out?
New fix - go to C:\Users\your_username\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile 2 then edit poe2_production_Config.ini . Just make sure that before editing you made exact copy in same folder in case of bricking anything.

My settings are:

"
[SOUND]
master_volume2=100
sound_effects_volume2=100
ambient_sound_volume2=100
music_volume2=false
dialogue_sound_volume2=false
item_filter_sound_volume2=100
reverb_enabled2=false
mute_in_background=false
channel_count=low
chat_alert_sound_volume=100
cinematic_sound_volume=32
mix_setting=headphones
disable_char_events=true

After that I can play 1080/60fps without huge drops, only busy cities go under 45 fps if there are over ten people for whatever reason. If you have MTX with multiple particle effects, also take those off.

Did pull at least 70 mobs and fps went to 50-55 instead of previous 1-3 with dynamic culling blurring everything into 16 pixels.

You can further edit few lines, at worst game will overwrite it to defaults.

So, there is absolutely no reason for me to updating my system. Because i have no fps issues on my monk. But my necro frost mages are absolutely fps breaking build. I just watched Ghazzy stream, he has :

MB: MSI MPG B650 Carbon WIFI
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D 4.4 GHz 140MB
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB SUPRIM
Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z5 (6000MHz) (Black/RGB)
Storage: Kingston - Fury Renegade
PSU: Fractal Design - Ion+2 Platinum
Cooling: Fractal Design - Lumen S36 (RGB)

This is x2-x3 much more powerful and much more expensive then my config

Its very expensive and he has absolutely same framedrops to 45 fps even not at breaches. If smbd interested in this, u can check his stream... I cant understand such bad optimization at 2024-2025.

So i have no chance to play witch on minions with stable 60 fps at every game mechanic.

Smbd can tell me smth like that "stop watching your fps, just play game", but it's not just about the numbers, it's about how I perceive the gameplay and frame rate drop with my own eyes
Yes if you play a geared necro even on a 5800x3d with a 4060 using dlss I struggle to maintain 30fps in maps, if I swap to say my monk I can sustain 50+ fps. It is completely build reliant and how much visual bloat is going on, hence why having a top tier PC might help, but in party play and with certain builds there is no way people are maintaining 144+ fps on mid range PC's. This was a problem in PoE1 since forever too.

I play with a friend using a 7800x3d and 4070ti and he has to lock his game to 60 fps for a smooth experience, he can't maintain even near his refresh rate with a necro in the party and drops below 60 sometimes too.

So yeah, do not upgrade your PC unless its at least 5 years old, but if you have a mid range PC within the last 4 years and you have no problems in other games, think carefully before you spend money and rather wait out potential performance patches during EA or play a less visually demanding build.

Last time i played poe 2 5 days ago, waiting for optimization fixes.
And yes, minions are destroying fps. On my monk i have fps drops only on hard maps with breaches / burning ground and high density( 2 heralds crush 2x screen ) and it drops to 50-55. Necro drops to 25-30-35 fps :D I hope they will do smth with game engine soon. Cant play with such fps drops.
dont play with max shadow and GI? those are resources heavy
