[SANCTUM SPOILER] Yeah, I Think I'm Done

make a game with 100 different ways to scale character power then force everyone to complete a piece of content that completely invalidates picking 95 of them.

its such a terrible thing to have as ascendancy content.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
Just do trial of chaos for last ascendancy. Sekhema is fine for 3rd but it's absolute dogshit for 4th one.

-40% damage is MASSIVE. I don't think you realize how massive.

Not just massive, the order of ops also means that if you pick up a +50% damage boon you'll still be doing less damage. I picked up that boon first and when faced with an impossible and bad choice (where the bad was the -40%), I thought "well at least my +50% will counter it". After I picked it up I was still doing less dps than my default because the -40% is applied first, and the +50% is applied to the resulting dps (in the end that's 90% of your normal dps).

It's not massive the difference to my baseline, but that run was already massively unlucky (forced pick of -50% sacred water, and more expensive merchant goods, the combo that would kill any shop interactions that could counter/fix bad afflictions), really felt like the run had it out for me.

This order of ops really caught me by surprise tbh, not really what I'd expect and felt like the game specifically made this choice to be punishing. I play roguelites frequently and I don't recall any ever doing it this way either.

I had that boon, but that's not how any of this works. They are multiplicative.

That actually works out to:

1.35 x 1.35 x 1.5 x 0.6 = 64.025% more damage

That's down from 82.225% more damage, so I was dealing -22.135% total damage.

Which is why this took even longer than usual. If I had been able to get rid of the 40% less damage affliction, I'd have had 173.375% more damage, or +110.85% total damage. Which is basically why that affliction completely fucked me.

Edit: By the way, I was lucky enough to manage to avoid the 15% Enfeeble that popped up shortly before the boss.

Edit 2: To make clear how bad that would have been:

This works out to 39.42% more damage, or about -52% total damage, so basically less than half the original.

Edit 3: Whoopsie. Used the wrong axis. Fixed the wording.

Where are you getting the 2x 1.35 from in my example? I think you're misunderstanding I wasn't talking about your boon/affliction combo, but mine.

edit: It could ofcourse be multiplicative as you say, still not an expected situation in most roguelites I've played where these bonuses/malices get added first.

This is not a coulda/woulda/shoulda situation. That is literally how the calculations work in the game. Everything that explicitly says "more" or "less" is multiplicative with each other.

I get what you're saying

No, actually, you don't get it at all. Mr. Squishy Ranger™ cannot compute that you cannot compare a Squishy Ranger™ to something that has to walk into melee range to deal damage. And I even have the luxury of using a DoT build, so I can circle strafe the bosses and focus on mechanics.

Yeah, you definitely aren't projecting at all, right:

Always love it when people join a discussion and act like the OP is illiterate or has the IQ of a shovel. I understand how Sanctum works. I cannot influence RNG more than I already did. I spent roughly 50ex on relics.

Also, I find it rather humorous to have you tell me to "git gud", yet you have never beaten Sirus in 6 years, and all you've ever played is Rangers and Witches. You literally haven't ever touched melee.

By the way, this is what my screen looked like when I beat Maven & Sirus in 2 attempts:

Kindly bugger off with your "git gud" attitude. Cheers.
