GGG, gotta change that new 'one attempt per waystone'.
dO oNlY mAps yOu cAn hAnDlE...
sure bro, just did a really terrible long map, which I totally dominated but had to backtrack nearly the whole way to kill the last rare which then oneshotted my (80% armour 90% evasion) char with some on death explosion Only redeeming fact was that the loot he dropped was total junk I think I'll take a break again until something is done at least about the time it takes to finish them Last edited by RoninSJ#4948 on Dec 22, 2024, 4:46:50 PM

Seems like the biggest argument to mine was "If you can't handle it, do a lower map."
Well, that's the thing, I can frost strike around the map and clear it fine, and the next one, and the next one. Then I run a lower tier map, and get stomped. Simply dying does not mean you cannot handle the content. It means something happened that you were unable to react to. I completely cleared a T15 map today with one of every modifier, corruption, irradiated, boss, breach, ritual, etc. Why? Because I spent an hour going at a snails pace so I didn't back myself into a corner. Immediately after that, I logged off, losing my drive to keep playing for the day. My resistances are maxed, I'm using my own build that is putting out better damage and survivability than the meta build, but that doesn't mean some Lich's won't freeze me on the tower, powering through my thawing talisman, and let the other 4 land their hits at the same time, killing me. It's not a skill check, they made the game more difficult. I'm fine with the difficulty, I'm fine with the old death mechanics losing xp, I'm fine with losing my entire experience bar on one map. I'm tired of losing waystones and modifiers do to one misstep. No, it doesn't happen every map, maybe one in every 6 maps, unless I have waystones with poor affixes to my build. That's me... a fairly experienced PoE player. If it's happening to me, it's happening to you, you're just part of the "Challenge Good!" crowd. Yes, when game launches and everything gets tuned, I will absolutely be running hardcore characters, but right now? I'm tired. There's a lot that's better about PoE2, but One attempt per waystone is not one of them. |

The game is too unstable imo for 1 portal. "texture missing" crashes and just random freezes are happening all the time. This is the only game I get that kind of stuff with.
I think 2 would be totally fine, and especailly if they didn't delete all loot on the ground. |

I haven't finished the campaign, but in Act3 I saw the terrible fate of most last Vaal people, and I think POE2 is definitely for Vaal descendants, fight for another one-shot. Anyway at this difficulty I have to lower my expectations that the time needed to kill the final boss form 1 year to 3 years. For the Queen!

Feels terrible. Honestly just feels like a low effort thing to make the endgame take longer as you waste a bunch of resources in addition to lost exp with every death. It strongly disincentivizes doing difficult content, which is generally where the fun is in POE. Doing ultra safe/boring play is for hardcore, let players be more reckless.

People in this thread acting like the difficulty per enemy can't jump 10x based on it's mods. My friend is insanely tanky, likes to block, good resists, life, armour, all that stuff. Yet sometimes there's a rare that will just delete him for no apparent reason. I play minions, so I can sit back and let the minions eat it instead, but he has no choice. Going to a lower tier waystone won't help.
The whole "fix your defenses" thing is pretty silly to. Most people don't even trade as it's not apparent to anyone in game that it exists. Even if they find out, most people use their orbs to try and craft upgrades, not to buy them. The game also doesn't do a good job of telling them how they died and what they can do to try and prevent it. A death screen saying you died to lightning because your resist is only 30% can help. Now on to the point of this thread. I don't want to see a stupid PoE1 end game, the end game is already far too similar as it is and needs massive changes. That said, a middle ground would be good. I kind of like the idea of a certain amount of progress nets you an extra attempt. If you step into a map or pinnacle boss fight or whatever endgame content and die straight away, at least you know you're not ready and should go to lower tier content until you are, or try and fix the reasons why you died. But if you're progressing without much issue through the map or fight, but die to some outlier like a rare with stupid strong mods or a boss combo/crit you hadn't seen, you shouldn't just get ejected. Respawn at hideout, go back in a portal and reset the map. Either that is it, you get one extra go, or maybe two depending on the content. It lets you try to push yourself, challenge yourself, try higher level stuff. With bosses, you at least know if your build can even attempt them, if so you get more attempts to learn the boss instead of just failing and maybe having to spend 100 hours grinding again to access it for another attempt.
