From 580k to 390k drop after two weeks.
What's concerning is how it's been only two weeks, while GGG intends the early access (and servers) to last for over half a year. I did stop playing after 4-5 days. This is is a significant drop in retention and I'm sure everyone has their own good reasons. Mainly, I bought the early access because it felt GGG was reasonable with its price and what else you could buy with the 300 points. I got what I expected for my money and time, now it will be on GGG what they'll do with early access and later on the full release of PoE2. My own retention solely depends on how appealing, rewarding and overall a good competitive, online ARPG PoE one or two will feel that many will want to participate or follow. I hope GGG does a server wipe by at least mid January if indeed the early access will lasts for over half a year. If you were one of almost 200k others that stopped playing, you're welcome to voice your own reason or reasons. Last bumped on Dec 22, 2024, 11:49:13 AM

" I was one of those for two weeks. Postponed preparing for exams during the launch weekend to play as much as possible and after the weekend had to stop since job + exams ate all my time. Having finished exams i have time to play again. |

Poe1 player count: 10k
I think it's time to change poe1 to be more like poe2 based on this data. |

PoE1 is in maintenance mode and a significant number of those players that would jump on a new league for a few weeks are likely not coming back. Hope for GGG sake that the newbies can pickup the $lack, but that is very doubtful.

" The data shows rapid player loss. I also agree that we should make POE 1 lose its player base. |

It's out-peforming D4 retention post release.

How many got early access for free? Tested it and did not like. I assume we drop to more like 100k:ish pretty fast. Game at current state is pretty hard for casuals i assume but damn im havin a blast :)

Actually the retension is not that bad. Absolute values are not as meaningful as relative ones. Its about 33% loss over two weekas in comparison to 45-50% in almost every POE1 league. However I assume its not only due to novelty of the game but also due to campaign length (took me more than 15h for the second char with good starting gear vs common 4-5h of non speed playing in every POE1 league at the start). So we'll see how it goes when the majority of these 390k will comlete the campaign.

Well, having shut up shop for a couple of weeks over Christmas/new year just after 24h2 dropped for general use and bricked the game for so many people will certainly have a fun effect on player numbers. It's unfortunate timing during peak poopsocking season, but game devs need downtime too.
The 500+ pages of (noisy, bewildered) people posting here as unable to play any more are just the tip of the iceberg. Every other game seems fine for me, so guess I can see the incentive for people running 24h2 to just go and play something else. Last edited by ancipital#6282 on Dec 21, 2024, 11:36:51 AM

" you cant compare league with minimal content addition to the base game to the brand new game that should be WAY better at player retention if PoE2 after 5 years of development only manages to have one month lifespan then its utter failure ... thats something a singleplayer game that rakes in $60-70 price can afford, not "live service" that is supposed to be F2P ... |
